Local News COMMUNITY NEWS BRIEFS Soul Stroll Benefit for the African American Health Coalition The Soul Stroll, the African American Health Coalition’s 10th Annual Wellness Walk, is on Saturday, Aug. 18 at Wilshire Park at NE 33rd and Skidmore Streets, start- ing at 8:30 a.m. with fun family activities, food, massage and more. The short walking course is 1.5 miles, while the longer is 3.3 miles. The 8th AAHC’s annual Health Dispari- ties Luncheon, Sunday, Aug. 19, brings together health professionals, organizations, and community members to learn about health disparities among African Ameri- cans. Now in its 17th year, the annual Wellness Village, starting at 9 a.m. Sunday at 1333 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., is a free event open to the public that brings together clinics, health organizations, and the com- munity to promote health education and provide free health screenings in a fun, live- ly environment. Bank of America Plans Homeowner Assistance Event in Tigard Bank of America hosts a free homeowner assistance event Thursday, Aug. 23 through C O M Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Embassy Suites Portland Washington Square. The event is free and runs 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Customers attending the event will be able to sit down face-to-face with a Bank of America specialist and discuss their current situation and determine what solutions are available to them through foreclosure avoidance programs. A New ‘Portlandia?’ Bonamici Hosts Town Hall Meetings for Senior Citizens Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (OR-1) plans a series of town hall meetings around the First Congressional District focused on issues that impact senior citizens. Information about government programs to assist sen- iors with housing, retirement, and financial issues will also be available. The meetings are open to the public and attendees are encouraged to arrive early to ensure seating. No RSVPs are required. Refreshments will be served. M U N I T “Super Chill - The Adventures of Greg & Vin,” is a new Internet comedy that puts Portland center stage as two apparent misfits, a British filmmaker and an American actor, meet on a park bench in Portland and begin a friendship through a shared desire to make the world a better place. Directed by award-winning British filmmaker Greg Ash, the improvisational comedy features Ash and Portland native Vin Shambry playing fictionalized versions of themselves.
