obituaries minnie Louise Thompson Bishop Cared for many Thousands Artice L.wright has A funeral was held on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 for Minnie Louise Thompson at Life Change Christian Center. Minnie Louise Thompson was born Minnie Louise Mays on July 3, 1942 to the union of Woodrow Wilson Mays and Lottie Mae Mays (Parson) in Decatur, Alabama. At an early age, she moved with her family to Portland, Ore. Louise (as she pre- ferred to be called) graduated from Washington High School and received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Portland Community College. From the date of her college graduation for over forty years, Louise was a practicing nurse for Legacy Health Care Systems – Emanuel Hospital. Her passion for patient care and health touched the lives of thou- sands of patients across many surgical spe- cialties. Louise retired from Legacy Emanuel in 2008, leaving behind many co- workers with whom she built meaningful friendships and with whom she kept in touch. Louise was blessed with three loving children – Nolan Stewart, Kimberly (Mitchell) Elliott, and Rhonda (James) Etherly. In September 1986, she married James Edward Thompson. Louise is also survived by James’ children - Tina (James) Jackson, James (Jacquelyn) Thompson Jr., Jonathan (Jasmine) Thompson, Jermaine (Stacey) Thompson, and Jimmy Thompson. Also left to mourn are Louise’s fifteen grand- children and one great grand child. She was the last surviving sibling on her maternal side and she is survived by two sisters [Veronica (John) Cable & Anita Mays] and three brothers [Ples Mays, Victor Mays, and Willie (Valerie) Mays] on her paternal side. She is also survived by her father’s second wife, Evelyn Mays, who resides in Cleveland, Ohio. Louise is preceded in death by her parents (Woodrow and Lottie) and her siblings (Wilma Jean Mays, Ricky Rankin, Glasker Rankin, Armpriscilla Epps, and Woodrow Wilson Mays, Jr.). A wake service was held Feb. 11 at Emmanuel COGIC United, and the funeral was Feb. 12, 2011 at Emmanuel . Olivia Jackson, 83, Leaves Cherished memories A funeral was held Jan. 8, 2011 at First A.M.E. Zion Church for Olivia Jackson. She was born on July 22, 1927, to George Cale and Phillis Washington of New Orleans Louisiana. She died Dec. 30, 2010. Olivia married Elisha Jackson Jr on Nov. 6, 1948. They had seven children. She and her family lived in New Orleans, La. and in 1960 relocated to Portland, Ore. Olivia was a long time member of Philadelphia Community Missionary Baptist Church along with her family. She later began to attend Emmanuel Temple FGPC. She was very active with her Mothers Board and other Church func- tions. She leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her life accomplishments, three daughters: Ida Hight of Los Angeles, CA; Carolyn Bankole of San Francisco, CA; Jacqueline Jackson-Freeman of Portland, OR, four sons: Elisha Jackson, Stanley Jackson, Gerald Jackson of Portland, OR and Ronald Jackson of Washington DC. Adoptive brother Lamar Akers of Portland, OR; three son-in- laws, Babatu, Abubakar and Larry; daughter-in-law, Barbara. Ten grandchil- dren: Diallobe, Zalika, Elimu, Taamiti, Jhmaal, Mpagi, Omar’e, Jessalyn, Ronald Jr, and Casey. Four great grandchildren: Rashawn, Elimu Jr, Zayden, and Sadie. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins in New Orleans, LA. Abundance of others she thought of as fam- ily and close friends, she came in contact with throughout all the places she traveled, to where her kindness and grace touched them all.
