Local News david douglas School district’s African American Family Night The David Douglas School District will be holding an African American Family Night for parents and family of the district’s Black students from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17 at the Fir Ridge Campus, 11215 SE Market St. in Portland. The goal of the night is to support and empower parents of African American students. Dinner and child care will be provided. The event will feature guest speaker Rob Ingram, the director of the Office of Youth Violence Prevention at the city of Portland. There will be resources present to help your child experience a positive educational experience, to be educated about public health issues, after school activi- ties, academic support and parental empowerment. Art Opening at City hall The Portland Chapter of the Links, Incorporated is having an Opening Ceremony and Reception on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 at City Hall from 4 to 7 p.m. for the Pacific NW Black Pioneer Traveling Exhibit that will be housed at City Hall from Feb. 11-Mar. 11, 2011. Grammy winner to hold Free Seminar Grammy Award-winning songwriter and musician Shannon Sanders will be holding a free music seminar, “One on One: Where Purpose Meets Passion” for local artists and musicians. A question and answer session will be held, moderated by Vursatyl of the Lifesavas. The event is free, but attendees need to RSVP as seating is limited.
