Human rights commission vacancy Portland is filling a vacancy on its Human Rights Commission, which oversees racial profiling issues among other things. Anyone interested in volunteering must submit an application by Feb. 11, at 4 p.m. The Human Rights Commission is comprised of 11-15 volunteer members appointed by City Council who represent a broad spectrum of the community. Members must live, work, worship, or be enrolled in school within the City of Portland. The theme is “Stop the Violence”: — Stop unjust police violence —Stop gang violence —Stop domestic violence For more information contact Emmanuel Temple 503- 287-2223. program Helps low-Income Homeowners The city of Portland awarded REACH Community Development with a $500,000 to expand their home repair program to address habitability issues in 175 rental housing units over the next three years. The grant is tar- geted to low-income families in the city who are disproportionate- ly affected by sub-standard hous- ing. The goal of the program is to make improvements to the physi- cal environment before the health and safety of residents becomes compromised. The Healthy Homes Program will be coupled with a public education campaign led by the City and County, creat- ing partnerships that provide leveraged resources and services, and targeted outreach opportuni- ties to low-income communities.
