Yang Sets Decathlon Mark

pole vault performance.

Yang had mixed feelings
about his victory.

But later in the press box, he
reflected sadly that "I should
have done belter.
"In a dual meet, you can con
centrate on one thing. In (his,
it's different, you have to think
about so many things.
"Saturday 1 thought 1 should
have had about 4,800 points."
He had 4.543.
"The cramps started in my
legs right after the pole vault.
They were still hurting me in
the 1,00 meters, t wanted to
go faster but t couldn't. I did
try to run faster and 1 did ran
at little faster but 1 was still
worried.
"But, I'm happy about the
way things turned out."

loyalty Day Sports Car races
held Sunday over a 2.4 mile
course at Newport.

production event, won by

in a Corvette.
The races at the Newport
Airport drew an estimated 5,
000 spectators. Nearly 100
sports cars entered.

port Chamber of Commerce
and the Oregan region of the
Sports Car Club of America
called the race "a big suc
cess." A divisional champion
ship race will be held at New
port in August.
