Page DM EUGENE REGISTER-GUARD, Sundij, Oct 21, 1962 DRAMA and Over $14 Million ARTS i i Ties dec All-Time Record NEW YORK W Old Masters, Chinese art, rare book and manuscript! provided the highlights of the 1961-62 season at Farke-Bernet Galleries, Inc., the nation's foremost art auction firm. The 76 sales brought a gross total of $14,127,516, an all- time high for the galleries. The total was swelled by the $4,670,250 bid in the space of an hour for the 24 pictures in the Erickson collection, which was more than twice the amount of any previous auc tion of paintings in the world. Included in that auction last November was Rem brandt's "Aristotle Contem plating the Bust of Homer," which brought $2,300,000, the highest known price ever paid for a painting. It now hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art here. The world auc tion record also was broken by the $875,000 paid in the same sale for Fragonard's "La Liseuse," now in the National Gallery of Art in Washington. More than $9 million was collected for the nearly 2,000 paintings sold during the sea son. Although the Rembrandt and other Old Masters led the parade, there was strong sup port for the moderns. The Ju viler collection of 39 paintings and sculptures brought more than $1 million. Churches pictured in the exhibit arc the eight 1962 na tional award winners, chosen by the guild. Pictures, textual ! material and drawings are in cluded in the exhibit. ; Ticket Holders Urged io Pick Up Books If you ordered University Theatre season ticket coupon books and haven't picked them up yet, best do it soon. That's the word from Winona Cheatham, UT business manager. She said last week that a large number of season ticket holders have yet to pick up their books. Order blanks for the next play, "The Taming of the Shrew," which starts Nov. 2, will go out to season ticket holders this week, she said. Without the coupon books, season ticket holders can't get the seating preference to which they're entitled. The UT has no regular boxoffice hours at present, so a call to DI 2-1411, ext. 441, before making a trip to the theatre would be a good idea, Mrs. Cheatham said. Regular box office hours will begin Oct. 29.
