The musical-tragedy will play as a single feature at the Fox for an extended run. Lyrics are by Stephen Sond- heim and music' by Leonard Bernstein. It was a smash hit on Broadway. The movie version stars Nata lie Wood as Maria and Richard Beymer as Tony the modern- day Romeo who woos her from a New York tenement fire es cape. Set on New York City's west side, the movie details the hos tility between two gangs, the Jets (Beymer's old gang) and the Sharks, led by George Cha kiris. Members of the two gangs, their girls and Maria, the sis ter of the leader of the Sharks, go to a dance in "neutral" ter ritory. But events at the dance touch off violence, a love af fair and tragedy. "Kid Galahad," the movie that stars Elvis as a young boxer with title hopes, will con tinue its run this week at the New Eugene Drive In in Glen wood, with "Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation," a comedy, as co feature. Walt Disney's musical, "Lady and the Tramp," a full-length cartoon feature, will continue at the McDonald through Tues day. To complete the family double-bill, the McDonald is playing "Almost Angels," a film account of the adventures of the Vienna Boys Choir. The rest of the movie menu for the coming week features PROOF! "The Chapman Report," a documentary-drama about four suburban, well-to-do women who participate in a survey of sex habits, will open with "No Down Payment" Wednesday at the McDonald Theatre. Shirley MacLaine has a light hearted role or really, two rolesin "My Geisha," playing through Tuesday at the McKen zie Theatre in Springfield. She is cast as the wife of a motion picture director, Yves Montand, who is seeking a Japanese gei sha to star in a new film. Miss MacLaine is determined to get the part and her husband's full attention. So she goes to Japan to become a geisha and the high jinks start.
