GIESEKE Coming to Eugene Episcopalian Vicar Takes Olympia Post The Rev. Robert F. Burger, vicar of St. John'a Episcopal Church in Springfield for the past six years, has accepted a post with the Diocese of Olym pia, Wash. St. John's new vicar, the Reverend Burger said, will be the Rev. Theodore Ehrlich, now a supply pastor for the Diocese of Oregon. The Reverend Ehr lichia family lives in Eugene. Curate and Chaplain The Reverend Burger will be giving his farewell sermon at the Springfield church on July 29. In Washington, he will be curate of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Bellingham, and Episco pal chaplain at Western Wash ington State College, Belling ham. This latter post, he said, will be his major work. Mission Supply Minister While in Springfield, the Reverend Burger, who lives at 1064 Kelly St., Apt. 3, has been active in the Springfield Min isterial Assn., especially with the association's chaplaincy pro gram at Skipworth Home. The Reverend Erllch most re cently has been supply minister at St. Aidcn Mission in Port land, the mission in the diocese with a portable church building. He is married, and has two children. Church Larry A. Belle, superintendent of the Children's Farm Home near Corvallis, has announced tho appointment of the Rev. Orvillc Clark as full-time chaplain at the home. Tho Rev. Clark, a graduate of Willamette University in Salem, is an ordained minister for the Assemblies of God, with headquarters in Springfield, Mo. Ho has been pastor at Occanlake Assembly of God Church for the past fivo years. Regular chapel services at the home will begin July 29 with the arrival of the new chaplain and his wife. SPItlNGKIKI.I) CHRISTIAN Church Deacons have elected Willard Morgan chairman, and the church's elders elected Bill Co as chairman. Mrs. Tom McCord has been elected chairman of tho deaconesses at Northwood Christian Church. FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH'S official board has elected Cecil R. Warner of Eugene as chairman. Ansel Hylapd, retir ing chairman, was elected vice-chairman. Ruth Bascuo was re elected chairman of the church's deaconesses, and R. C. Roy ston was elected chairman of the ciders. "DIRKCTOR'S NIGHT" will be observed tonight at the bi weekly rally of Eugene Youth for Christ. Al Phillips, director of tho Eugene YFl will be speaker. Guest speaker will bo Ted McReynolds, new assistant director of dormitories at the Uni versity of Oregon. His topic will be "The Christian Challenge on Campus." PASTOR U - n Grace Lutheran Church'j new pastor, the Rev. Harold J. Gicseke, will be installed Sunday in services at the church, 17th Avenue and Hilyard Street, Eugene. The Rev. Gieseke, a native of the Northwest, was called to the Eugene church from the pastorate of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Tacoma, Wash. He is a member of the board of directors of the North west District, Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. Many Emerald Empire residents know the Rev. Gieseke from his nine years (1946 1955) at Zion Lutheran Church in Corvallis, where he also worked with students at Oregon State University. ' He is a graduate of Concordia College, Portland, and Oak land, Calif., and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. He graduated in 1934, and served in Washington pastorates through 1942, in addition to working with students at Wash ington State University and the University of Idaho. The Rev. Gieseke, his wife and five children will live in the church parsonage at 1343 Mill St., Eugene. The couple's children are Mary, 18; Irma, 15; Claudia, 12; Tamara, 4, and Harold, 3. Sunday's installation service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. standard, 3:30 p.m. daylight. The new pastor will be in stalled by the Rev. Lawrence Rohlfing, pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church, Eugene. A reception for the new pastor and his family will follow in the parish hall. Former Eugene Residents To Work in Congo Mission Dr. and Mrs. Dale Walker of Troutdale, former Eugene resi dents, will leave Oregon in early September for the Congo, where Walker, a dentist, will serve with Africa Inland Mission. Walker, 28, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Walker, 1797 W. 25th Ave., Eugene. His wife, Carla, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wcsscl, 3115 Roy al Ave., Eugene. In Africa, the Walker family will be stationed at Oicha, the Congo, where the mission has a large hospital. Walker will be the first dentist to work with the hospital. Dr. and Mrs. Walker and the Revival Services To End Aug. 3 Revival services conduetcd by the M. C. Allen evangelistic team will continue through Aug. 3 at Central Assembly of God Church, 25th Avenue and Hil yard Street, Eugene. Members of the evangelistic team are the Rev. and Mrs. M. C. Allen, and their daughter, Clcta Ruth. The minister and his wife are graduates of Glad Tidings Bible College, San Francisco. Services are scheduled night ly at 7:30 standard, 8:30 day light. Musical numbers by Miss Allen, who plays the musical cowbells, vibra harp, organ, piano, iccordian and violin, are featured at each service. Walker graduated from Eu gene High School in 1951, Ore gon State University in 1955 and the University of Oregon Dental School in 1959. He has been practicing in Troutdale for three years. Both Doctor and Mrs. Walker are former members of First Evangelical United Brethren Church, Eugene. First Baptist Will Honor Missionaries First Baptist Church, Eugene, will honor two of its members Sunday at a reception following the evening service. The church members are the Rev. and Mrs. Don Smith, who will leave Eugene next week for another tour of duty in Africa with the South Africa General Mission. The Rjv. Smith, a graduate of the University of Oregon, will be guest speaker at the church's Sunday evening service, which begins at 7 p.m. standard, 8 p.m. daylight. His topic, "In Their Minds Will I Write Them," will be concerned with his mission work a Christian publishing house in the Republic of South Africa that issues "Our Africa," tho continent's fourth largest magazine. Headquarters of the publish ing company is in the suburbs of Johannesburg. Sunday's reception, originally scheduled several weeks ago, was delayed by the Rev. Smith's recent illness. In Eugene, the couple has been staying with Mrs. Smith's mother, Mrs. W. E. Schick, 337 E. 13th Ave. Wesley Methodist Approves Plans Members of Wesley Methodist Church, 400 Cal Young Rd., Eugene, have approved prelim inary plans for a $100,000 sanc tuary. Favorable votes by the church's Quarterly Conference and the congregation were re quired before the church's of ficials and building committee could proceed with plans. Ground-breaking ceremonies arc now scheduled for Sept. 9, and church officials hope that the sanctuary can be completed by April 1 for consecration on Easter Sunday. HELEN KELTS Fellowship Director Eugenean Appointed To New Post Helen Wilcox Kelts, former Registrar of the Christian Writers Institute of Chicago, has been named director of the Lane County Child Evangelism Fellowship. Mrs. Kelts will succeed Mrs. Tom lnglis of Eugene, who has been director on a part-time basis. The post now is full-time. Child Evangelism Fellowship in Lane County is an inter-de-nominatonal work for grade school children. Interested chil dren are organized into "Good News Clubs, which meet in homes where volunteers lead work in Bible stories, songs and flannelgraph lessons. Last year, 18 classes were held weekly during the school year, and officials estimate that 1,500 children were "reached" with the Bible les sons. The Lane County work is a chapter of the state organiza tion, which is organized as a non-profit corporation. Interna tional headquarters of the pro gram is in Grand Rapids, Mich. Work has been conducted in Lane County fur 20 years. Mrs. Kelts, who lives at 2225 Grant St., Eugene, has con tributed articles to a number of publications, including "Christian Life" magazine, and has served on the magazines editorial staff. Corvallis Pastor Guest Speaker Guest speaker Sunday at Trinity Methodist Church, 440 Maxwell Rd., Eugene, will be the Rev. Robert N. Peters, of the First Methodist Church, Cor vallis. The Reverend Peters, who is director of the Wesley Founda tion in Corvallis, will be fea tured at 9 a.m. standard, 10 a.m. daylight, at the church's morning worship service. He is a former pastor of the Sutherlin-Wilbur Methodist churches, and is a graduate of Lewis and Clark College and the Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley, Calif. In September, he will enter Willamette University to begin work for a master's degree in intellectual history. Vocal, Organ Music Scheduled Monday A sacred concert of vocal and organ music will be given Mon day at Grace Lutheran Church, 17th Avenue and Hilyard Street, Eugene, by the Foresters, a male quartet from Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, 111. The conference's keynote ad dress will be given by Bishop 2 Churches Set Vacation Bible Schools Two Eugene churches, Light house Temple and First Chris tian Church, will begin annual vacation Bible school classes Monday. "Adventuring With Christ" will be the theme at Lighthouse Temple, 1209 Olive St., Eugene. Classes for children three years and older and for adults are scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. standard, 8 to 10 p.m. daylight, at the church. Last classes will be Friday night. High school age students and adults will study the Ten Com mandments, led by the church's pastor, the Rev. Herbert Brad shaw. The public is welcome. First Christian Church has chosen "The Bible" as this year's vacation church school theme. Classes will be conducted at the church Monday through Friday for children kindergar ten through junior high ages from 8 to 10:30 a.m. standard, 9 to 11:30 a.m. daylight.
