Seaman, both of Portland, received grant-in-aid awards to continue their study at the Uni versity of Oregon Medical School, and Tsoo E. King and R. W. Eighteen Lane County stu dents are among the 224 Oregon high school students who won recognition this year for work on student publications. The students received Eric W. Allen awards for newspaper work and George S. Turnbull awards for yearbook work. The awards are named for former deans of the University of Ore gon School of Journalism. This is a legendary picture that lives and is dead right in detail too. Thousands of Swiss men and women can yodel, and many of the best troop regularly into town for yodel contests. Opening in this lakeside town June 29 is the three-day nation al yodel festival. Hotel beds were reserved two years ago, Luzern prepared dormitory-type the Constitution. accommodation for about 5,000 people and latecomers among more than 6,000 singers, from more than 300 yodel clubs, from tens of thousands of spectators will certainly have to hunt a bed out of town; such is the popularity of this kind of music. The festival is modern. This year's is the 12th of a series usually held every three years, and organized by the national yodel federation, which has about 12,000 members. This year's event is expected to be the biggest ever. Yodeling dates back far into Switzerland's history. It is a music of the mountains, experts will tell you. For Rood measure it will have men and women sing- ers, individuals and choirs. Five large halls are needed this year to accommodate those compet ing before two score judges. The festivities open June 29 with a fahnenschwinger (flag throwing) display and an alp horn concert, followed by a yodel concert in the evening.
