Page 12A EUGENE REGISTER-GUARD, Thuri., June 21, 1962 Club, Market Alky Permits Suspended State Commission Charges Violations A Glcnwood club and a Eu gene market have had their liquor licenses suspended tem porarily after being charged with violations of the state liquor law. Suspended Wednesday by the Oregon Liquor Control Com mission were the Emerald Club at 3697 Franklin Blvd. in the G Ion wood district, and Irish & Swarlz Market No. 3 at 777 W. Sixth Ave., Eugene. A 20-day suspension effective July 9 was imposed on the Em erald Club, owned and operated by Merle Short, on a charge of misrepresenting alcoholic liq uor (by dilution) to the public. State liquor control authorities s said the violation occurred May 24. The suspension against the Irish & Swartz Market is for 15 days effective July 9, and is based on a complaint that beer was sold to a minor on March 7. The commission Wednesday also denied the request of Jack J. Curtiss of Eugene for a li cense to sell draft and bottled beer in The Hut in Lowell. That denial was based on the opinion of the commission that granting of such license "is not demanded by public interest or convenience." Club By KENNETH PAVNE For the ResliterGuard If you like variety night club style, you may have enjoyed Club Intime Wednesday night. If you found the evening dull, no one can justly accuse you of being a hopeless sourpuss, be cause Club Intime's initial bill, presented in the Student Union building "Fishbowl" under the auspices of Carnival Theatre, was rather dull. Maybe it was the heat. Maybe It was the unfamiliar intimacy of working within arm's reach of the audience. Whatever the Penney's JVIVERS OPEN FRIDAYS 9 A.M. TO 9 P.M. STANDARD TIME f.) FOl'RTII FLOOR Intime Tries Hard, reason, the performers, hard though they worked, failed to arouse a predominantly student audience that remained polite but largely unimpressed. In spite of the assistance of the Starlighters, an extremely able and willing five-piece dance combo, an air of audition hovered over the performances that were tight and frequently self-conscious. An exception was the last act on the bill, the Grenadiers, an instrumental and vocal trio from Eugene who specialize in folk music. What's more, they have charm. Linda Blodgett, supported by a chorus of four, was again pleasing in "Life Upon the Wicked Stage," a number she does so well in "Showboat." Vivian Tendollen, who did Eleanor Roosevelt in the LT production of "Sunrise at Cam pobello," appeared to advantage as a ballad singer. She is sweet- 1,60,4. tnifttKO... iJU& t ? "Poetry Sketch," a mono logue by Karen Higgens, who was chosen UT's best actress of 1961-62, satirizes the pretentious and phony in ultra esoteric poetry and for that reason has comedy possibilities. It barely grazed its target Wednesday night because it was too over drawn to be especially pointed or funny.
