Sharp losses were taken by a number of leading issues. Towards the close IBM was down about 8, Xerox half a doz en points or so. Volume for the day was esti mated at 3.S million shares com pared with 2.26 million Monday. Losses of key stocks went from fractions to more than a point. A fall of more than 4 by Du Pont dampened the averages and a selection of the more vol atile issues showed losses of 4 to 5 points. The market was off only slightly in the morning but wid ened its losses around mid ses sion before recovering slightly. Polaroid and Beckman Instru ments were off around half a dozen points. IBM was down 12 points at one time before reduc ing the loss to about 8. U.S. Steel showed a loss ex ceeding a point. General Motors eased after a firm early per formance. Chrysler and Ford dropped fractions. Two Enter Pleas To Driving Charge Two women arrested on charges of driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor over the weekend en tered pleas in Eugene Municipal Court Monday. Dixie Lee Roxanne Pine,28, of Roscburg, pleaded innocent to the charge. She was arrested about 6 p.m. daylight Saturday at Sixth Avenue and Charnel ton Street. Ann Opal LcDoux, 46, nf Har risburg, pleaded guilty. She was arrested at 2:08 p.m. daylight Sunday at 11th Avenue and Grant Street. The case was con tinued for sentencing. Steel Output Drops , NEW YORK (WD The na tion's output of steel dropped another 5.8 per cent last week to the lowest level since April 1, 1961, the American Iron & Steel institute reported Mon day. NW Natural Gas Reports Record Net PORTLAND (IIPD Northwest Natural Gas Co. reported an all time record net income of $3.3 million for the year ending April 30 at an annual stockholders meeting here Monday. Director Francis F. Hill said this is $491,000 over the prevl. ous year. Chairman C. H. Gueff roy said $27 million in total op erating revenue is projected this year.
