The 19,642 sun-drenched fans saw 12 homers hit eight of them by the Indians, who now have whacked 23 in their last eight games, breaking a record set last season by the New York Yankees. Cleveland had four homers In the opener but won the game In the ninth Inning on a walk, a balk and a bloop single by Bubba Phillips. Kaline, who leads the league In homers, was the batting hero for the Tigers with six hits in nine at bats. He walloped two homers, two doubles and two singles and drove In five runs, three In the nightcap on his 11th and 12th homers. Minnesota Splits NEW YORK Wl Minnesota broke through with two runs in the 13th inning for a 42 vic tory in the second game Sunday after the New York Yankees had won the opener 4-3 in the ninth Inning. The split left the Yankees tied with Cleveland for the Ameri can league lead, and Minnesota one half game behind. Zoilo Versalles's single, fol lowing a double by Bob Alli son and a bunt single by Bernle Allen, gave the Twins their first run in the 13th off loser Jim Coates. After Earl Bailey's single loaded the bases, Ver sallcs scored all the way from second while the Yanks failed in an attempt to complete a double play.
