'Road to Calvary' Planned For 3 Easter Presentations Eugene's First Assembly of God has scheduled "Road to Calvary" as its annual Easter dramatic presentation. "Road to Calvary," which features a cast of 90, will be presented at the church, 1330 Madison St., Eugene, at three times 6:30, 9 and H a.m. Sunday. The presentation includes eight scenes: the Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, a courtroom scene, Peter's denial of Christ, another courtroom scene, the Crucifixion and the Ascension. Sound Effects Each scene will be presented with a background of organ mu sic and sound effects, including storm sounds. The church's 45 voice Sanctuary Choir will sing between the scenes. This year's presentation, which lasts for 45 minutes, was written and adapted for the stage by the Rev. Bob Pagett, assistant pastor of the church. Society of Christian Service Group's Top Offices Go to Local Women Emerald Empire residents came home from the annual meeting of the Eugene district of the Woman's Society of Chris tian Service at Klamath Falls with the majority of the top offices. At the meeting, Mrs. Steven Komane, a member of Ebbert Memorial Methodist Church in Springfield, was elected district president. She will lead activi ties for the district, which in cludes 39 societies with a mem bership of 2,707 women, for a year, and will represent the dis trict at the national assembly in Atlantic City, N. J., May 15 to 18. Other district officers include Mrs. Kenneth Kienzle, First Church in Eugene, vice presi dent; Mrs. George Elinkhorn, Trinity Methodist of Eugene, recording secretary; Mrs. J. A. Morgan of Wesley Methodist, secretary of supply; Mrs. Glenn Reymers, Trinity Methodist, sec retary of children's work; Mrs. Eldon Lee of Yoncalla Metho dist, secretary of literature and publications; Mrs. Orval Pontius Yoncalla Methodist, secretary of promotion, and Mrs. Fred An drews, First Church of Eugene, secretary of student work. THE REV. W. D. Wellman of the Eugene Church of the Naz- arene has an added impetus these days in his drive to in crease Sunday school attend ance a contest with Tillamook Church of the Nazarene. The pastor and Sunday school super intendent of the church losing the contest, which closes Sun day, will have to take their counterparts to dinner. So far, it's a close race both churches have been averaging 300 to 320 each week. HOUSING, world trade and United Nations' bonds will be the "Three Key Issues" of Tues day's Woman's Society of Chris tian Service meeting at First Methodist Church. Eugene. The meeting will open at 10:30 a.m., with Mrs. E. E. Cone of Eugene leading devotions. A panel dis cussion on the theme, featuring panelists Mrs. R. L. Bentsen, Mrs. Tom Frost, Mrs. Kenneth Hixson and Mrs. Wayne Stauf- fer, is scheduled for the after noon, a noon luncheon is planned, and the Service Sing ers will give a program. THE APOSTLE PETER tells the story of Jesus, His ministry and His suffering in the film The Power of the Resurrec tion," which will be shown Sat urday at 7:30 p.m. at the weekly Youth for Christ rally. The rally will be held at the Church of the Open Bible, 3195 Hilyard St., Eugene, and is open to the public. MARGARET HUNTINGTON of Vida, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben C. Huntington, is scheduled to participate in week-long program of church college discussions concerning Christian higher education in Oregon Presbyterian Churches She is a senior at Lewis and Clark College, Portland. COTTAGE GROVE Mrs, Duane Hoyt of Cottage Grove, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church here, will represent her i church as a delegate to the 1 Oregon District convention of the Woman's Missionary League in Albany, Wednesday and Thursday. ; TEMPLE BETH Israel in Eu gene has scheduled a Jiskor service for the Passover Season Thursday at 8 p.m. "RELIGION AND REASON" will be Sunday's topic for the weekly meeting of the Eugene Baha'i community. The meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Friendly House, 2445 Kincaid St., Eugene, with a panel of students from the University of Oregon discussing the topic. The public is welcome. UO Religious Group Sets Talent Show Christian House's version of "Century 21" will be presented Friday ai. First Christian Church, Eugene. This will be the an nual talent show of the campus religious organization, held to raise money for summer service project participants and to help delegates attend the national Study Conference of the United Campus Christian Fellowship. Two showings of the talent program are planned, one for 7 p.m., the other for 9 p.m. Tickets, on sale at the door, are 50 cents for adults and high school students, 25 cents for grade school and junior high school students. Pre-school children will be admitted free of charge. Refreshments will be available, and the program is open to the public. Mrs. Murray McLees, wife of the pastor, served as script editor. Church officials are expecting an attendance of 3,000 persons! this year. Last year, some 1,700 persons saw the program, and special preparations are being made for this year's crowd. j Ample parking will be avail able, the Rev. Pagett said, and nursery facilities for small chil dren and infants will be pro vided, free of charge. No Admission Charge No admission charge will be made, but a free-will offering will be taken. Featured in the cast of this year's pageant are Dean Ander son, Chuck Carlsen. Mike Kramer, Roy Gable, Carl Alli son, Lynn Anderson, Clarence Payne, Chuck Sweet, Fred Spores, Gene Landseidel, J. D. Anderson, Gary Anderson, Grover Slater, Clifford Wyant, Wayne Crumpacker, Norman Murray, Doug McConnell, Hack Thornton, Dick Roberts, Ed Vos- ika, Earl Strand, Jan White, Mary Powell, Steve Wellette, Gary Hugoboom, Don VanOrd- strand, Paul Koberstein, Lowell Powell, Mel Davis, Ron Keller, Chuck Royer, Ellen McLees, Martha Lovegren, Faye Eaton and Alfreda Spores. The prologue will be given by Jack Kuykendall. Two Groups Pick Officers Two groups of the Women's Christian Fellowship First Christian Church in Eugene and Springfield Christian have elected new officers. New president of the Eugene organization is Mrs. Wesley Haines, who will be installed in the office at the church's mother-daughter banquet May 8 at the church. Retiring president in Eugene is Mrs. Gilbert Cross. Other new officers for the Eugene group include Mrs. Carl Wulf, first vice president; Mrs. Ralph Schultz and Mrs. Robert Fort, second vice - presidents; Mrs. Cross, worship; Mrs. Dale Lindley, recording secretary; Mrs. Oscar Turton; correspond ing secretary, and Mrs. John Miller, treasurer. In Springfield, Mrs. William Cox was elected president. Serv ing with her will be Mrs. Gene Davis, first vice president; Mrs. Roland Moshier, second vice president; Mrs. H. E. Several spe cial music numbers are planned. 2nd Public Bible Lecture Scheduled "Basis for Belief in God," the second in a series of special public Bible lectures, will be presented Sunday at 7 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of the Eugene congregation of Jehovah s Wit nesses, 95 N. Washington St K. D. Rogers, a representa tive of the congregation, will present the lecture. Following the talk, the congregation will hold their weekly Bible study, using the watchtower magazine. official journal of Jehovahs Witnesses, as a study aid. Hartzell Cobbs is talent show chairman. The Rev. Giffin, who was orig inally from Oregon and was or dained at First Baptist Church in iaigene, is now retired. He is a former resident of Springfield, and also held s pastorate at Lakeview. Evangelist to Conduct Series of Meetings TOLEDO Evangelist Les ter H. Sheets of Los Angeles will be in Toledo this coming week to conduct a series of spe cial meetings at the Assembly of God church. Meetings will be held nightly, except Monday and Saturday, at 7:30. Topics will Include "Will Christ Come in 62?"; "Will We Know One Another in Heaven and "Hen-pecked Husbands." Two sisters from Kendrick, Idaho, both of whom are mis sionaries to India, will be the featured speakers at the spring convention of American Luther an Church Women of the Wil lamette Conference, The convention is scheduled for Central Lutheran Church, Eugene, April 28. Delegates and visitors from 25 churches in the conference are expected to at tend, A talk illustrated with slides by the Meyer sisters is sched uled for the convention's morn ing session, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Junior Choirs of Eu gene and Springfield under the direction of Marion Frye will provide special music. Mrs. O, M. Munson of Port land will give an inspirational message and install new offi cers at the afternoon session. Women from Trinity Lutheran Church in Dallas will provide the music. Also on the program will be Marlys Ssrenson of Eugene-Area Women to Go To Sessions Two Eugene-ares women have been named as delegates to the Oregon District Convention 1st the Lutheran Women's Mission ary League. The convention is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday at Immanue! Lutheran Church in Albany. Mrs. Edwin Suliivan of Grace Lutheran Church and Mrs. Jack Bateke of Messiah Lutheran Church will be the Eugene dele gates. "Life With My Lord" is the theme for the meeting. The Mis sionary League is an auxiliary organization of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, with 71. affiliated societies in Oregon with a membership of 2,211 wo men. Both of the Meyer sisters are graduates of Pacific Lutheran: University, Parkland, Wash., Dorothy in 1949 and Hermina in 1954. Dorothy Meyer has been man aging the Christ Hostel for Christian students attending Sri venkeleswara University in Ti rnpati, Andhra State. She was also advisor to American Lu theran Church Women in the area. Hor sister, Hermina, is a med ical technologist, working with the Catherine Lehman Luther Hospital at Beningunta, a vil lage of 8,000 persons about sev en miles from Tiraputi. She is in charge ot the hospital's lab oratory and is director ot a school for technologists.
