Plen ty of good gags and a nice ending. 9:30 p.m., Zane Grey Theatre (6) Joan Crawford dominates the lead in this repeat of "Reb el Range." She plays a stubborn widow who insists she wants the house she used to live in before the Civil War. The second in stallment on why and who pays taxes, with particular reference to the federal government's pro posed tax legislation designed to eliminate some of the loopholes for both corporations and indi viduals. Argument for and against tightening "expense ac count" spending will be pre sented. Other subjects discussed will be oil depletion allowance. overseas tax havens, and pro posals on giving American in dustry a seven per cent credit for modernizing its plants. MOVIES 7:30 p.m. (2) "Kentucky." Loretta Young, Richard Greene, Walter Brennan. Horse racing story has nothing new to con tribute but it s pleasant enter tainment and well done. (1938 good). 11:15 p.m. (12) "Sorrow ful Jones." Bob Hope, Lucille Ball. Bookie Hope gets involved with racketeers and fixed races in this Damon Runyon story. Miss Ball is more reserved than she is in her "Lucy" character ization. Surprisingly, this film is a remake of an old Shirley Tem ple movie, "Little Miss Marker." Hope and Lucy still deliver many laughs. (1949 fair). Friday (daytime): 9:35 a.m. ( 12) "Stromboli." Ingrid Bergman. This picture was one of the products of the Bergman-Rossellini partnership, and it's an awful film in spite of the star. Story is about an unhappily married couple try ing to recapture something in Italy. (1950-fair). 2:30 p.m. (2) "The Miracle of the Belles." Fred MacMurray, Valli, Frank Sinatra. A movie queen dies, and is taken to her home town to be buried, where a miracle takes place. Long, ter ribly trite and sentimental dra ma, poorly acted. (1948 fair). 3 p.m. (8) -r- "Three Com rades." Robert Taylor, Robert Young, Margaret Sullavan, Franchot Tone. Erich Remar que's novel about postwar (I) bcrmany is turned into a sensi tive film. Not much on plot but deep in mood and character study. Margaret Sullavan is su perb as a girl in love with an unsettled, sick veteran of the losing side. (1937 good). 4:15 p.m. (6) "The Sniper." Arthur Franz, Adolphe Menjou, Marie Windsor. Adult drama about a deranged sniper who baffles the police on his trial. Exciting climax. Good perform ances, particularly by Franz. (1952 good).
