Trading became active near the end. The list had remained in mixed condition most of the session but prices slipped in the final hour of trading. Gains and losses of key stocks ranged from fractions to a point or so. Volume for the day was esti mated at 3.4 million shares, com pared with 3.06 million Tuesday. Gains and losses of key issues ranged from fractions to around $1. But there were some wide moves whose action ranged to $3 or so. Except for the savings and loans, the list was quite mixed. Financial Federal picked up more than 2 and First Charter and Great Western Financial added around 1. The steels were off, fractional ly. Aircrafts declined except for General Dynamics which ad vanced about 2. Du Pont, declining 3, kept the averages down. ' Rails were mostly off by frac tions. Walgreen climbed about 1. Prices on the American Stock Exchange leaned to the side of advance.
