Lane M. Smith, 65, 2714 Manor Sr., Springfield, a life-long Lane County resident, Who died Wednesday. '. . Services were In Buell Chapel with the Rev. Orvan Johnson of ficiating. Interment was In the Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born May IB, 1905, at Fall Creek. He was mar ried to Mary Godard on March 19. 1928, in Cottage Grove. Optometrists To Meet Here Dr. Edmund F. Richardson, of Hollywood, Calif., will address an area meeting of optometrists in Eugene May 25. The optometrists will meet for dinner at 6:30 p.m. at Ford's Din ner House, and the lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. Doctor Richardson is director of Postgraduate (Study for the Optometnc Extension Program, an International and nonprofit foundation. He is .particularly concerned with proper develop ment of vision in the child. "Pre-school vision care is a matter of prevention against a child's failure to achieve in school, and of assurance for his success in coping with the even greater visual demands of his adult years," he has said. Man Acquitted In Circuit Court A 42-year-old Eugene man was acquitted in Lane County Circuit Court this week of charges al leging illegal property transac tions. Robert Franklin Guild, of 310 Carolyn Dr., was charged with ob taining money under false pre tenses. He was accused of receiv ing $1,000 from a private party by falsely pretending he had title to a piece of real property in Carolyn Gardens subdivisions. Judge Edward Leavy allowed a defense motion for judgment of acquittal after the state had pre sented its case during the trial. The trial was held without a jury. Judge Leavy's decision came Wednesday, the second day of the trial. Grove Jaycees Slate Cleanup cottage grove Junior Chamber of Commerce members here will pick up trash and rub bish Sunday morning in a "spring cleaning day," one of the club's annual projects. Residents are being asked to have rubbish to be picked up at the curbside. Saturday night or early Sunday. Trucks will make early morning runs. The Jaycees' busy day will In clude washing down the main streets in the city with the aid of the fire department; trimming trees in the city park, and paint Ing buildings in the park with paint furnished by the city. FCC Renews Station License WASHINGTON (Special) The Federal' Communications Com mission has renewed the broad cast license of radio station KEED, Springfield. An FCC official advised the of fice of Sen. Maurine Neuberger (D-Ore) that the new license runs for 18 months. KEED was one of a number of stations whose license renewal applications were held up last year. The FCC never explained why It held up the KEED application.
