To Honor Mothers
Mother's Day, which is this
Sunday, will be observed by a
number of churches and church

grams. .
In Eugene, two mother-daugh-ter
programs are planned.
Emerald Baptist Church will
hold its annual Mother-Daughter
Banquet Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. at
the Church of God, 23rd Avenue
and Friendly Street, Eugene.
The theme, "A Bouquet for
Mother, will be carried out in
decorations and program with
Mrs. Leo Deffenbacher in charge,
. Special recognition will be giv
en, to the oldest and youngest
mothers present, and also to Mrs.
A. C. Osterholm, Mrs. Robert
Schmieding and Marilyn Schmied

DESSERT PLANNED
Women of United Lutheran
Eugene, will hold a mother
daughter dessert and program

convention is expected to draw

turn to Eugene June 1.

Begins Services
First services were held last
Sunday by the congregation of
the newly-organized Asbury Moth
odlst Church.' Some 125 persons
attended, according to the Rev.
E. J. Aschenbrenner, district superintendent.
Services are being held at the
auditorium of Fairfield School,
; Royal Avenue and Baxter St. The
Rev. Aschenbrenner will be guest
speaker this Sunday.

The Rev. H. G. Jorgensen of
Seattle, interim pastor of the
Canyon Road Baptist Church in
Portland, is continuing meetings
at First Baptist Church, Cottage
Grove.

from Midvale, Idaho, will begin
a series of evangelistic messages
Monday at Springfield Church of
Christ, 12th and C Streets,
Springfield.
His talks will continue through
May 24, and will begin at 7:30
p.m. Topics will include "Person
al Responsibility," "What is
Love" and "God's Foolishness."
At 7 p.m., before . the main
speech, he will teach a class for
children of elementary school
age. Nursery service will be provided.

'Requiem'

quiem" will be given in Eu
gene May 28 by tho choir of
First Methodist Church, Eu
gene, In tho church sanctuary.
The performance, scheduled
to begin at 7:30 p.m., will fea
ture - tho church's two adult
choirs, a total of 65 voices.

Four Pastors Accept Galls;
One Resigns, One Arrives
Four Eugene ministers The
Rev. Charles Moore, the Rev. Al-
way J. Bell, the Rev. James Mead
and the Rev. Robert L. Henkel
have submitted resignations to
their congregations.
In addition, the Rev. J. P,
Stockett of Cottage Grove Church
of the Nazarene, will leave the
Emerald Empire in June -for new
pastoral duties.
And a new minister foe the
Church of God, Springfield, has
arrived to begin his work here.
MOORE RESIGNS
The Rev. Charles Moore, who
began the organization of Em
erald Baptist Church, Eugene,
nearly seven years ago and has
been serving as pastor as the
church grew in size, has accepted
a call to tho Grant Park Baptist
Church, Portland. '
Vice president of the Oregon
Baptist Convention, he has been
active in the Central Lane Coun
cil of Churches and the Eugene
Ministerial Assn. He will end his
pastoral duties in Eugene May
21, and the church is expected to
name an interim minister soon.
A minister who saw his mis
sion congregation grow from five
or six adults to 100 adults has ac
cepted a call from the Bayshore
Baptist Church, San Francisco.
The minister is the Rev. Alway
J. Bell, who has served Immanuel
Baptist Chapel for five years. He
plans to begin his work in San
Francisco on the first Sunday in
June. The Rev, Bell was in evan
gelistic work before coming to
Eugene.
Members of the Eugene Unitar
ian Church accepted the resig
nation of the Rev. James Mead as
minister last 1 Sunday at the
church's annual meeting. The
Rev. Mead has served the congre
gation since February, 1957.
Future plans, the Rev. Mead
said, are indifinite, but he plans
to retire from the ministry.
The Rev. Robert Henkel, pas
tor of Our Saviour's Lutheran
Church, Eugene, resigned his pas
torate Thursday preparatory to
his accepting-a call to organize
a congregation in Brockville, On
tario, Canada.
Pastor Henkel organized the
church in 1955, and supervised
the congregation 4 building pro
gram. His new post will be in the
Thousand Islands area of the St.
Lawrence River. There is no Lu
theran church within 30 miles of
the area. His last service at Our
Saviour's will be June 11.
GOING IN JUNE
A Cottage Grove minister, the
Rev. J. P. Stockett, has resigned
his post with the Church of the
Nazarene in Cottage Grove to ac
cept a call to the Church of the
Nazarene in Sierra Madre, Calif,
He organized the Cottage Grove
Church a year ago, and it now
meets in the American Legion
Hall. He expects to leave the lat
ter part of June. : .
