Engineers Ask Bids
On Dam Equipment
Bids are being invited for (he
design, manufacture, test and de
livery in Oakndge of a power
transformer and appurtenances
for the Hills Creek Dam power
house on the middle fork of the
Willamette River.
The Army Engineers will open
bids on the project in Portland
at 2 p.m. Aug. 4. Cost is estimat
ed at $200,000. The transformer
delivery deadline is Nov. 1, 1961.
WEATHER FORECAST Partly cloudy skies are predicted for Tuesday' night Tn'd
Wednesday in western Oregon. Cold fronts moving across the nation will bring show
ers and thundershowers to the Great Plains, Mississippi Vallev and through the Ap
palachians into Florida. A cooling trend is expected through the central Plains into
portions of the northern and central Rockies, where snow flurries are possible.
Project Opposed
WASHINGTON OH The Eisen
hower administration announced
Monday through its Budget Bu
reau it was opposed to the Fos
ter Reservoir project on the
South Sanitam River in Oregon,
as outlined in a bill passed last
Friday by the Senate.
It was one of 43 projects to
which the Budget Bureau voiced
objections on several grounds.
The Foster project, listed at
S17,340,000, was one of several
flood control jobs objected to on
the ground that it failed to meet
the administration formula for
minimum local contribution of 30
per cent of the cost.
Flower Show Planned
SALEM (UP1) The floral de
partment of the Oregon State Fair
will have three three-day amateur
cut flower shows this year. Last
year there were two four-day
shows. A major change in the
commercial garden division stip
ulates that only one entry will be
allowed in each class.
