MANY MORE SETS Disregard for the moment tho quality of radio programing to day and look at it simply as an industry, a means of communi cation. A CBS study finds: In the pre-TV year of 1046 there were 57,700,000 radio sets in the United States. Today there are 132,400,000 -sets. Last year alone 10,500,000 radios were sold Sales thus far this year are 41 per cent ahead of last. Why? For one thing, the num ber of auto and portable radios has increased greatly. But in the pre-Tv year of 1948, says Karol, the average half-hour night-time radio program reached only 4,800,000 outlets. Further more, he says that .in 1948 the sponsor cost for an average half hour night program was $19,000 with three minutes of commercial advertising time.
