RODEO SPIRIT The Pioneer Park rodeo arena got the start of an extensive face
litting job Saturday as members of the Eugene Police Department and Junior Cham
ber of Commerce worked to prepare the grounds for the annual EPD-Jaycee spon- '

a post hole digger into position while Loren Downey, a Jaycee, sights along the fence

Prepare for Roundup
An extensive program of
change and improvement in the
rodeo arena at Pioneer Park be
gan last weekend when crews of

preparation for the third annual
Emerald Empire Roundup, sched

The renovation is designed to
improve the salcly, seating ca
pacity and convenience of the
rodeo arena.
The calf chutes, now situated
at the cast end of the arena, will
be torn out and rebuilt at the
west end. The cast end of the
grounds will be entirely closed in
with high tiers of general admis
sion seats. The new bleachers will
add at least 1500 scats.
New heavy fence posts will be
set in an arc from the bucking
chutes around in front of all gen
eral admission sections. New
sturdy fencing, reinforced with
wire cable, will be installed. A
new six foot gate will bo built at
the west end. In addition, the
