for his recall.

The Lane County Convention of
Christian Churches and Churches
of Christ will meet at 10:30 a.m.
in the Oakridge Christian Church,
Saturday, May 14. The featured
speaker for the morning is the
Rev. Carroll Roberts, minister of
First Christian Church, Eugene.
Mrs. Haltie Menzics, retired
missionary lo India, will speak
during the aflernoon. Dinner will
be served, with the ladies of the
Oakridge church furnishing the
meat dish and delegates bringing
vegetables, salads and desserts.
The main item of business will
be the project of securing funds
for the inside finishing and ceil
ing of the Glenwood Christian
Church. The Glenwood Church
was built in a "Church in a Day"
project of Labor Day, 1953, by the
churches of the Convention.
B. W. Porter, Drain, Dies

Benjamin W. Porter, of Drain
and long-time resident o the
Monroe area, died Thursday
morning.
Mr. Porter, 75, was born at
Bellfountain in June, 1879 to
George and Nancy Slajle Porter.
He lived at Bellfountain until
1896, whcS he aad his parents
moved to a farm in the Monroe
Community.
He married Betty Hess at Van
couver, Wash., in 1918. They
lived o a farm near Monroe until
1937,
The Porters then moved to
IJrain, and Mr. Porter has heen
manager of the Edwards stock
ran'ch since then.
He is survived by his wife:
three brothers: Faye G., Monroe,
Oftian D., of Leaburg, Hugh M.,
of Los Angeles; one sister; Mrs.
Ella M. Rossman, of Shcdd. One
sister and brother preceded Mr.
Porter in death.

Thursday in a railway hospital
car. Although accompanying doc
tors said his condition was "satis
factory," Togliatti, 62, apparently
still was seriously ill.
He collapsed during a vigorous
May Day speech at Trieste. Doc
tors said he suffered blood con
gestion, caused by sunstroke. He
has not been able to rise from
bed since.
