Frosted Apple Sauce Cake Planned for Girl Scouts - Have you a Girl Scout in the 'family? Then here's a cake de signed for her. For among the nearly two million Girl Scouts to day are many who are learning the art of cooking and baking. - This Frosted Spicy Apple Sauce Cake is one any girl can whip to gether as a special treat for her family or as party fare for licr friends. It's easy to make. And so good. Under the brown-sugar frosting, It's fruited with plump raisins and dates and thick with nuts. There's molasses for dark richness, cin namon, cloves and nutmeg for ' apicincss, and apple sauce for the sweet tang of apple: The apple sauce is a big reason for the case of making, too . . . for you just open a can or jar of your favorite variety. Also, the canned apple sauce gives moislness and helps keep the cake fresh. After the batter is poured Into the baking tins, run fingertip over mixing bowl or spoon for "a lick." Frosted Spicy Apple Sauce Cake .i cup shortening : i cup sugar ' . 3 eggs ' V4 cup dark molasses S cups sifted all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda W teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon cinnamon V4 teaspoon nutmeg Vi teaspoon cloves 44 teaspoon salt , 1 cup canned apple sauca 1 cup seedless raisins ; 1 cup chopped dales , 1 cup chopped walnuls , "Brown Sugar Frosting Cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs, 1 at a time, healing after each. Add molasses. Dredge raisins, dates and walnuts In i cup flour. Sift together re maining flour, baking soda, bak ing powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, Cloves and salt; add alternately with apple saute lo creamed mix ture. Add raisins, dales and nut meats. Pour into 10-in. greased spring form pan. Bake in moder ate over, 350'F., 114 hours. Cool 10-15 minutes; remove from pan, cool on wire rack. Frost top and sides of cake with Brown Sugar Frosting. Yields 20 servings. 'Brown Sugar Frosting 14 cup bultcr 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed Vt cup milk Hi cups sifted confectioners' sugar 'A teaspoon vanilla extract Melt butter in saucepan. Stir in brown sugar. Boil, stirring con stantly, over low heat 2 minutes. Stir in milk; bring to boil, stir ring constantly, cool to lukewarm. Gradually add confectioners' sug ar. Beat until thick. Add vanilla extract. Let stand several min utes until icing is good consisten cy for spreading. Vary those hamburgers voit are planning to serve your family by simmering, mem in ready-prepared tomato sauce. Be sure to brown the hamburcers on holh sides before adding the sauce.
