The machine was seized in a raid March 29 at the Golden Canary Tavern, 2000 W. 11th Ave., Eugene. Tavern-owner Carl Rooen, 54, was fined $75 for violating the city's pin ball ordinance. Police said the tavern had made pay-offs on the machine. Metropolitan Contralto . Sings at U of 0 Friday Claramae Turner, contralto star ot opera and concert, will appear at McArthur Court, Friday, at 8 p.m. under sponsorship of the Civic Music Assn. She has made 5 nation-wide con cert tours and Has appeared in American opera companies from coast to coast. These include the Metropolitan and San Francisco Operas, and others. Claramae Turner's appearance In Eugene will be one of the high lights of the Eugene music sea son, according to Dr. G. B. Hull. president of CMA. Admission will be by CMA ticket only. Miss Turner was acclaimed at the "Met" where she made her debut in such important roles as Amneris In the most popular of all of Verdi s operas, "Aula. She always includes in her concert programs some of her most lam oils operatic arias. During her high school days she studied music with Maude Iloman Riley In her home town of Eureka Calif. After she was graduated, she went to San Francisco to join the chorus of the San Francisco opera. So Bolivia still must import at least $25 million worth of food stuffs yearly. In its inflationary crisis, millions of dollars worth of food come as a gift from the United States. Emphasis now is not so much on agrarian reform as on the mi gration plan. The government plans to move people from the highlands of western Bolivia to the vast and sparsely settled plains of eastern Bolivia around Santa Cruz. How does the government ex pect to get the Indians to leave their old homes for the new?
