We salute the Incom parable work of our Chamber of Commercel chairman of the Legislative In terim Highway Committee that recommended the bill, said: "The city of Portland's busi ness tax affects, among other things, bulk gasoline which is shipped to all parts of the state. In effect, the city is taxing gaso line used by the rest of the state. "The Constitution says that ail gas tax revenues shall go to the state. The city got around this provision, and this new bill is ; intended to correct that situation. "Cities now get 10 per cent of j I all state highway revenues, and the counties get 19 per cent. I don't think they arc entitled to take more than that through local! taxes." j SALEM Ml Sen. S. -Eugene Allen, Portland, said Thursday he I is preparing unemployment com pensation legislation that would provide bigger benefits than those proposed by the Governor's Ad- jvisory Committee. I The governor's committee would raise the ceiling on benefits from $25 a week to $35. Allen would I go to $40. ! He said his proposals would disqualify from benefits any per sons who quit their jobs without cause, those fired for misconduct, and those who refuse to accept other suitable jobs.
