In Central Oregoi Sweetland Product 2441 llllyard St. 5 0928 1 - yj COTTAGE GROVE Final ne gotiations lor purchase of 41 acres of land, a mile and a half south of Cottage Grove, including the rodeo grounds, were complet ed last Tuesday by the board of directors of Cttage Grove Rid ing Club and Mrs. Hatlie Sharp, from whom the club has been renting the grounds. The con tract signing and presentation of the down payment took place Friday. Purchase price for the 41 acres was $18,000, with a down pay ment of $5,000, with 10 years to pay the balance. Future plans for the Riding Club include a home for the South Lane County Fair Board 4-It Club, Future Farmers of America and other non-profit or ganizations. "The Riding Club will do its best to cooperate with other Lane County non-profit or ganizations to make a better county," said John Wells, clerk of the board of directors. Plans were discussed Tuesday for the forthcoming annual pro fessional rodeo in midsummer. A definite date for the rodeo is to be announced. Lewis Caldwell was elected treasurer of the board. Mrs. Paul Miller, Mrs. Ed Pycatt and Mrs. James Shepherd were appointed as the new publicity committee. The committee in charge of the Amateur Talent Show also met with the group. The Show, an old-time box social, will be at . BEWARE IMITATIONS MBfeJ tflW iff Educators At Conference The winter conference of the Oregon Assn. of Secondary School Principals opened Friday at the Erb Memorial Bldg. at the University of Oregon. The two-day conference ends Saturday. Speakers are J. G. Umstattd, professor of education at the University of Texas; and Paul B. Jacobson, dean of the University of Oregon school of education. Jacobson will discuss current ed ucational problems, and the Tex an will talk on an appraisal of the secondary school. Rex Putnam, superintendent of the state department of edu cation, is another guest speaker. Social functions include a crab feed set for Friday night at Eu gene High. Later the educators will attend the Orcgon-OSC bas ketball game at McArthur Court. Principals from junior high schools and high schools of the state are attending. O. Meredith Wilson, president of the U of O, was scheduled to give the wel coming address. Presiding is Cliff Skinner, president of the OEA Secondary School Principals. of talent accepted. Charles Ernest Head, 35, of 318 Knoop Lane, was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital for a checkup and treatment for shock, and then re leased. He told stale police that he was eastbound and that he braked the car at Springfield junction to avoid another auto. His front wheels went out of control when they ran onto the "jiggle bars" at the intersection throwing the 1954 hardtop into the pole. All lights in the intersection were put out of order and a Eu gene Water and Electric aoaru crew had to repair the damage. State police said they are con tinuing their investigation. Trapp Files Reply to Suit Joel D. Trapp, a Eugene busi ness man is being sued by his partner for "wrongful dissolution of partnership," has filed an ans wer in circuit court denying ail major allegations of a complaint filed against Trapp last Decem ber. Trapp's partner, John C. Nich ols Jr., is asking $5,000 general damages, alleging Trapp "wrong fully dissolved" a partnership the two men had for operating Joel's Star Loan and Jewelry at 575 Willamette St. Trapp stated in his answer that Nichols has failed to pay one-half of the costs of constructing the one-story building which houses the business, although there have been "frequent requests" for pay ment. The answer asked the court to deny Nichols' request for dam ages against the defendant. Office Evacuated TOKYO w The U. S. Army evacuated its downtown Tokyo headquarters Friday when a tank containing poisonous chlorine gas sprang a leak and flooded the building. The Army said there were no serious injuries. All. Each year the lodge holds the affair for the sole purpose of raising funds for the support of the lodge's dental clinic. Doors will open at the temple at noon. A Dutch lunch will be served.
