O'Dwyer Returns To New York City NEW YORK Ufi former Mayor; William O'Dwyer returned to New York Wednesday night after an absence of three years and seven months. I He expressed no interest in pol itics and denied that "subpenas" connected with a 1951 Senate probe had anything to do with his visit. He said he was here for business and pleasure. O'Dwyer, smiling and looking fit, arrived by plane from Cali fornia where he testified before a Congressional committee prob ing Communist activities in Mex ico, where he served as U.S. ambassador. Vermont Forests MONTPELIER, Vt. .(IB Only eight per cent of the commercial forest area of Vermont is pub licly owned. The state owns 83,- 000 acres in state forests and for est parks, and there are 225,000 acres in Green Mountain National Forest. Close to 6,000 acres of this is devoted to state recrea tional use. Now, At Least She's Certain SALEM I The Traffic Safety Division looked over Oregon re ports this week and said one of them told of a woman driver who let her curiosity get out of hand. She shifted into reverse gear while driving 35 to 40 miles an hour, to find out what would happen. Among other things that hap pened after the car went out of control and hit a truck on the left side of the highway, was a citation for her to appear in court on a reckless driving charge. Unpopular With Cows SYRACUSE, N. Y. (IB St Jo seph's Hospital officials weren't too surprised when Miss Inez Potter, 32, was brought In for treatment after being kicked in the head by a cow. Thtir., Oct. 28, 1954 9B Rhee Orders ' Loan Probe SEOUL W President Syng- man Rhee Thursday ordered his Cabinet to make "a thorough investigation" of alleged improp er procedures involving South Korean government financial officials. A National Assembly investi gating committee reported last Tuesday that former Prime Min ister and Finance Minister Paik Too Chin and other financial offi cials used "favoritism and pres sure" to obtain improper loans for their friends. Paik now is economic coordina tor handling the U.S. aid pro gram. He called the report "a political intrigue schemed by a group of ambitious men." Futile Precaution HARTFORD, Conn. (IB George A.
