Rpgisler-Guard, Eugene, Ore, 6B Tues., Sept. 21, 1954 Awards Mark Safety Record Highly -six men, representing both hourly and salaried em ployees from nine departments, were honored by Weyerhaeuser Timber Co. at a pulp division safety dinner at the Driftwood restaurant in Springfield Friday night. Karlier this month these men representing pulp mill, paper mill, recovery, wood yard, main tenance, electric, instrument, storeroom and special payroll de partmentsset a record of work ing five years without a lost time accident. J. O. Julson, pulp division man ager at the company's Spring field Branch, presided at the din Julson presented special plaques to two departments hav ing accident-free records for five years. They were the electrical and instrument departments. Art Weleber, electric foreman, tcccpted the plaque for his de partment. Instrument foreman Hoy Potter received the plaque Special guest at the dinner was Byron Oyster, Tacoma, director of safety for Weyerhaeuser. Five-year safety recognition pin were presented to each man by Julson. Bend Lumber Mill Resumes Operation BEND m Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Co., idled for the past three months by the Pacific Northwest lumber strike, resum ed operation Monday when 67 men crossed a CIO picket line and returned to work. Meantime C. L. Jennings, chairman of the State Board of Conciliation, announced the hoard would meet here Sept. 27 to investigate the dispute. Jennings was here Monday to eonfer with management and labor representatives.
