some appliances would not.
LIMITATIONS
The size of the improvement
loan allowed under these provis
ions is limited by the amount
n the mortgage paid off, and by
the lender's willingness to lend.
The improvement loan would
become a part of the mortgage
No. ,r were $26 to $3ii. Long camp- an( wnuld thus be subject to the
rules for mortgages: the Federal
Housing Administration will guar
antce 95 per cent of the first
$9,000 of value, and 75 per cent
of the rest, to a limit of S20.000
one one and two-family homes.
Mortgages may run up to 30
years.
If the improvements were made
under the regular FHA improve
ment and repair program, it
would be subject to a $2,500 ceil
ing, and could not run for more
than three years and 32 days,
and the FHA could not insure
more than 80 per cent of its
value.
SOMETIMES MORE
For one type of improvement
adding rooms a home owner can
borrow more than the paid-off
portion of his mortgage, under
certain conditions.
Open-end mortgages still re
quire state concurrence. Fourteen
states permit them outright, and
30-odd more permit them with
various qualifications.
