Jones, executive director of the Western States Commis sion for Higher Education with offices in Eugene, will give the patriotic address. The history of the flag will be detailed by Delmar Newman, as sisted by local Scout organiza tions. Using the slogan, "Show Your Colors," the Eugene Elks Lodce will conduct a brisk campaign for a community-wide flag dis play on June 14. Thc day will be in honor of the 177th anniver sary of the adoption of the Stars and Stripes by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. The Elks campaign is being conducted as part of a nation wide activity by 1,675 lodges of the Order of Elks. The Elks have observed the day since 1907. Also urging local participation in Flag Day are members of the Eugene Marine Corps Organized Reserve unit Maj. Sun., June 13, 1954 5A THE CARL SMITH TUNE SMITHS, pictured here, will be a featured attraction when the Grand ole Opry makes an appearance at the Eugene High School auditorium June 14. There will be two shows, one at 7 and the other at 9 p.m. Smith joined the Opry in 1950. Among Carl Smith's top hits is "Hey, Joe," a recording by Columbia which has made the country's top tune list in the field of folk music. Lane Historical Society To Consider Reorganization A plan to reorganize the Lane Pioneer and Historical Society leading to affiliation with the Ore gon Historical Society will be con sidered at the local society's an- nual picnic dinner Saturday, June a, at tne Lane county lair grounds. A number of the members are in favor of affiliation with the state society and a committee has met several times recently to study the proposal. The committee has also discuss ed the possibility of taking over the old post office building at the corner of 6th Ave. and Wil lamette St. for a pioneer museum Members said when the building was first abandoned as a post of fice the plan was to use it as a museum site. However, it has been used for other purposes so far. Stage Door Studio Opens Summer Term Registrations for the Stage Door Studio's summer term will be held Monday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Enrollments are open in the drama department, according to Jean Poull, director. Students can also register Tuesday at class if necessary. The term will be from June 14 through July 16 at special rates. Two lessons each week will he offered, on Tuesday and Thursday.
