Bridesmaids were Miss Mary Bricher of Cottage Grove and Miss Mary Ann Laherty of Eu gene, ineir gowns were of pink dotted nylon, and their flowers were pink and yellow carnations. They also wore headdresses. Flower girl was Kathleen Van Burger of Coquille, great niece of the bride, in a dress of blue dotted nylon, carrying a basket of spring flowers. Wayne Van Burger, great nephew ot the bride, was ringbearer. Best man was Justin Brabham, brother-in-law of the bridegroom. Ushers were Jerome Poissant and Bernie Galvin. Following the church service, there was a garden reception for 150 guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Galvin. Flower decorations were lavender and yellow iris and lilies. Mrs. James Hall, Eugene, a sister of the bride, cut the cake. Mrs. Gerald Turpin of Creswell served punch. Mrs. Justin Brab ham and Mrs. George Heitzman assisted with serving. In charge of gifts were Mrs. Orville White of Cottage Grove and Mrs. Wayne VanBurger of Coquille. ine Carolers, singing group from St. Francis High School, sang several songs at the reception. The couple lelt for California on their wedding trip, and will be at home at 511 River Loop 2. The bridegroom is employed here by Southern Pacific Co. For traveling, the bride wore a suit in light brown with pink acces sories, and her bridal orchid as corsage. Mrs. Vincent Chase and Mrs. John Douglas served a wedding breakfast to the bridal pair be fore the reception. MISS JEAN MILLHOLLEN ot Eugene High School was ad judged outstanding in music, and will receive recognition by having her name on the Phi Beta Alumnae Chapter's mu sic cup. Wedding Rites At Myrtle Creek A ceremony at 2 p.m. in the Methodist Church at Myrtle Creek June 6, married Miss Marian Lou ise VeVrell to Arthur C. Stewart of Eugene. The bride is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Verrell of Myrtle Creek. Mrs. Walter Youst of Ochoco Camp, Prine ville, is the bridegroom's mother. The Rev. Frank Brown per formed the ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her father. , Special music before the cere mony was "The Lord's Prayer" and "I Love You Truly." Yellow and white roses and snapdragons decorated the church, and greens were attached to pews. The bride wore a gown of lace and satin, the bodice of lace, the skirt of satin with lace trim, made with a train. Her illusion veil was held by a lace cap. She carried an orchid, with lily-of-the-valley in its streamers, . resting on a white Bible. Matron attendant was Mrs. Ho ward Schauers of Seaside, who wore a gown of yellow satin with overskirt of white net. She carried yellow carnations and also wore them in her hair. Robert Nice of Eugene was best man, and ushers were Donald Gibbons of Portland and Jack Couzens of .Vancouver, Wash. At the reception which followed Mrs. S. J. Farnsworth and Mrs. Carl Palo served cake and cof fee. Yellow and white snapdrag ons were arranged in a flat dish for centerpiece, with white can dies at each side. For their wedding trip, the bride wore a blue suit and white accessories, with her orchid cor sage. They are at home in Eu gene, where the bridegroom is engaged in lumbering. The. bride attended Southern Oregon College of Education and Oregon State College. Zonta to Hear Mrs. C. A. Barnes Zonta Club meeting Wednes day will be a dessert at 7:30 p.m. at the Woman's Club, 450 E. 14th Ave. Mrs. C. A. Barnes, president of the YMCA-YWCA Building Assn., and regional board member of National YWCA, will speak about "The YM and YW Building." Hostesses will be Mrs. L. B. Schmidt, Mrs. Harold K. Louns- bury, and Mrs. Wesley T. Davis Couple Wed Here in May IRVING - Miss Syfvia Ellen Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William M. Jones of Eugene, and John Leeland Sutley, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. 0. Sutley of Oak ridge, were married early in May at First Baptist Church in Eu gene. Dr. Vance H. Webster officiated. The bride wore a while faille taffeta gown in chapel length with a jacket and lunic of Chantilly lace. Her fingertip length veil was of illusion net, held by a head dress of Chantilly lace and pearls. She carried a bouquet of pink roses and stephanotis. Mr. Jones gave his daughter in marriage. Mrs. William Jones Jr. of Eu gene was matron of honor, wear ing a dress of shrimp pink taffeta with pink and blue tulle over skirts. She carried yellow carna tions and pink and yellow gladi olus, i Bridesmaids were Miss Eliza beth Barnes and Miss Joann Kri delbaugh, both of Eugene. They wore ballerina-length dresses of blue and yellow tulle over taffeta and carried yellow carnations with pink and yellow gladiolus. Candlelighters were Miss Shir ley Mohwinkle and Miss Phyllis Thompson. Vernon Sutley was best man for his brother and ushers were James Sutley, another; William M. Jones Jr., the bride's brother, and Patrick Bryans Carry. Mrs. A. Virgil Robidiou sang "0 Promise Me" and "I Love You Truly," accompanied at the organ by Mrs. S. H. Wilcox. The church was decorated with lilacs, iris, pink and rose tulips, and tapers in candelabra. A reception in the church par lors followed the ceremony. The cake was cut and served by Mrs. C. A. Wilcox and the punch was served by the bridesmaids. The couple went to Monterey, Calif, for their wedding trip. The bride wore a gray suit with white accessories for her going-away costume. The bride has remained at home until her graduation from Willam ette High School. The groom re turned to duty at Ft. Benning, Ga. where he is attending Officers Candidate School. Among the out-of-town guests were the bride's grandmother, Mrs. C. B. Martin, and aunt, Mrs. C. A. Jones, both 'of Inglewood, Calif., and the groom's grand mother and grandfather, Mr. and Mrs. John Lamb of Creswell. Unitarian Church Scene Of Van Houten-Pocta Rites Bridge Club to Meet Bridge Club of Catholic Daughters of America will meet Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the home of Mrs. Peter DiPaolo, 2484 River Road. CDA Pinochle Club will meet Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the home of Mrs. Phillip Heidt, 1971 Gar field St. Mrs. Donald Hammer will be co-hostess. Miss Jean Ann Pocta, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Pocta of Findlay, Ohio, became the bride of Charles James Van Houten in a double-ring ceremony at Eugene Unitarian Church Sun day afternoon. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Van Houten of Oak Grove. White candles on the altar were lighted by the groom's sisters, Misses Amy and Anne Van Hou ten. Other decorations for the late afternoon ceremony were garden flowers. The ceremony was per form ed by Edward Ericson, Unitarian pastor, and Dr. Wesley G. Nicholson of the Congregation al Church. Mrs. N. A. Bussard sang "Ich Liebe Dich" (Beethoven) and "My Peace Thou Art" (Schubert). Piano music was, by Miss Kutn Ownbey, who played these num bers: "Communion" (Purvis) and Andante Cantabile" (Tchaikov sky). As a processional she play ed Handel's "Largo" and the tra ditional Mendelssohn Wedding March as a recessional. Mr. Pocta gave his daughter in marriage. The bride and her at tendant, Miss Irene Vanderpool, were dressed in similarly-styled summer frocks of sheer white. The bride carried a nosegay of white stephanotis circling yellow rosebuds and white carnations. Her attendant's nosegay was of blue carnations, tied with blue ribbon matching the sash on her dress. Craig Beeson was best man and Easton Cross, William Vibrans and Al Staehli ushered. White candles and garden flow ers decorated the refreshment table for the reception immediate ly following the ceremony. Mrs. Floyd Leavitt and Mrs. Beeson poured. Assisting were Mrs. Ralph Crow, Mrs. Norma Chrysler and Mrs. Merlin Myers.. The bride's book was presented by Mrs. Joey Hansey and Mrs. Staehli received the gifts. Mrs. Van Houten received her Rev. Mr. Empey, Mrs. Rauch Wed The Rev. W. B. Empey and Mrs. Jessie Dell Rauch of Salem were married in a quiet home wedding ceremony at the Salem home of the bride's cousin, Ralph Hein, Friday afternoon. The Rev. Brocks Moore, pastor of First Methodist Church, Salem, officiated. The couple took a wedding trip into California after their marriage. Later they expect to make a trip to Victoria, B. C. After July they will be at home at the bride's own residence at 395 S. 24th St., Salem. Mr. Empey will commute back and forth to Junction City to take care of his hatchery business. The families of the bride and groom have been close friends for the past 25 years, forming this friendship when 'Mr. Empey was pastor at Brownsville. Register-Guard, Eugene, Ore. Sun., June 13, 1954 3D (Wlttsfiire Engraving) MRS. CHARLES J. VAN HOU TEN (Jean Ann Pocta) was married Sunday in Eugene Uni tarian Church, and will be at home here. Her home former ly was in Findlay, Ohio. B.A, degree from Oberlin College, Ohio and her master's from Mon tana State University. Mr. Van Houten received a B.S. at Uni versity of Oregon and is studying there for his master's in mathe matics. A dinner for the bridal party was given following the ceremony by Mr. and Mrs. Jonathon S. Ben jamin at their home on Franklin Road. Earlier entertainment for the bride was a miscellaneous shower given by Mrs. Gcorg Bjorset and Mrs. Floyd Leavitt in the latter's home, Lane Tower apartments. A heme of yellow roses was car ried out in floral decorations, appointments and refreshments. Twenty-four guests attended. Vows Pledged In Parsonage The livingroom of the parson age of First Baptist Church of Drain was Ihe scene of an after noon wedding Saturday, June S, when Miss Evelyn Harris became the bride of Otis Doherty. Th double-ring ceremony was per formed by the Rev. T. T. Smith, pastor of the church, in the pres ence of a few friends and rela tives. Decorations were of roses, iris and other early summer flowers. The bride is Ihe daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Harris of the Smith River community. The bridegroom s parents are Mr. and Mrs. W. Herman Doherty of Pascagoula, Miss. The bride wore a suit of blue- gray linen with an orchid corsage and white accessories. Her at tendant was Mrs. Laila Harris, her sister-in-law, who wore a blue linen suit with white acces sories. Best man was Reginald Powell of Yoncalla. Following the ceremony a re-' ception was given. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Buchanan and little daughter, Diana, of Spokane, Wash., who drove to Drain for the occasion. Returning from a wedding trip to California, the young couple will live for the summer with the Rev. and Mrs. Smith. In the fall they will go to Mississippi, where the bridegroom will resume hii studies in preparation for the ministry.
