The 23 drivers in the local
area drove 654,620 accident-free
miles in city traffic during 1953.
Two drivers have not had an
accident during the full period of
their employment. C. L. Rath
bun has never had an accident
during his eight years of driv
ing, and L. C. Black has llin
record for his five years.

City Transit Lines last week at a
dinner. Carl Wendt, company
manager, was host and other
guests were from Eugene and
Springfield city administrations
and the Eugene Chamber of Commerce.

igation of Communist activity in
the Pacific Northwest at Seattle,
Monday.
The group will be headed bv
Rep. Harold H. Velde (R-Ill).

Other members scheduled to at
tend the four-day Seattle hearings
are Reps. Donald L. Jackson (R-
Calif), Kit Clardy (R-Mich), Gor
don Scherer (R-O), James B. Fra
zier Jr. (D-Tenn), and Clyde
Doyle (D-Calif).
Among the 45 witnesses to be
called to testify in Seattle is Bar
bara Hartle, who left the Com
munist Party recently after 21
years of party activity.
Committee members said the
investigation will be "a general
investigation of Communism in
the Northwest," with many of the
witnesses to be drawn from fields
of labor and education.
The subcommittee will hold a
two-day hearing in Portland, Ore.
next Friday and Saturday.
