Bordugh is the son of Mrs. Zclda Dcvine, 11S6H W. 7th Ave., Eugene. ROBERT A. SHEETS, yeoman 2c, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis A. Sheets of Florence, has reported to the headquarters of Rear Admiral Burton B. Biggs, USN, Commander Service Force, U. S. Pacific Fleet, for duty in the Ordnance Division. Sheets, who reported from the U. S. Na val Station, San Diego, Calif., joined the Navy in 1946. Chase Tacke FRANK N. CHASE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle D. Chase, Rt. 2, Eugene, has been promoted to the rank of first lieutenant with the X Corps in Korea. Chase, an Army aviator, is a graduate of the University of Oregon. He entered active Army duty in August 1952 and arrived in the Far East last December. k 1r -k ROBERT W. DAY, son of Mrs. Walter G. Day, 825 Horn Lane, Eugene, was promoted recently to sergeant while serving with the X Corps in Korea. A clerk with X Corps Headquarters' in spector general section, Day en tered the Army in June 1952 and arrived in Korea last March. He is a 1952 graduate of Oregon State College. A3C EDWIN G. TACKE, on furlough for 10 days from War ren AFB, Wyoming, Is visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Tacke, 1055 W. 18th Ave., Eugene. He is scheduled to re turn Sunday to his base, where he is being trained as an Air Force technician. BLM Official Transferred - WASHINGTON Wl-Secretary of the Interior McKay announced this week that William Guern sey, now regional administrator for the Bureau of Land Manage ment (BLM) at Portland, Ore., is being transferred here as an assistant director of the bureau. A bureau official told a re porter that Guernsey will be in charge of technical activities. The official said he is moving into the post previously held by William Pincus, now on loan to the Hoover Commission on Government Reorganization. Thomas' immediate assignment will be 'to coordinate reorgani zation activities. The fact that Guernsey was going to be brought to Washing ton was announced Feb. 12, when McKay established three new area offices of the BLM at Port land, Salt Lake City and Denver and abolished six regional of fices. Guernsey's new job, how ever, was not revealed at that time. USELESS SEDAN BOSTON OH When John Win throp, governor of the Massa chusetts Bay Colony in the 17th century, received a sedan chair as a gift, he didn't dare use it because such comforts of travel were considered too ritzy for the austere standards of the day. Three local area men are presently taking Air Force technical training at Warren AFB, Wyoming. They are: A3C OLIVER J. HARRIS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orrie Har ris, 2620 E St., Springfield; A3C THEODORE M. MCCAR THY, son of Mrs. T. M. Mc Carthy; A3C TOMMY L. MARET, son of Mrs. Jack Jacobsen. PVT. JOHN L. O'CONNER, a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 503rd Airborne Inf. Regt, 11th Airborne Div., Ft. Campbell, Ky., and son of Mrs. F. Bading, 2288li Alder St., Eugene, has been graduated from Basic Airborne School at Ft Benning, Ga. O'Conner became a qualified paratrooper Feb. 1 1954. He is presently assigned as a clerk at regimental headquarters. PVT. BILLIE F. KIRK is now serving as an honor guard at Ft. Campbell, Ky. He did not go to Colorado, as incorrectly stated on this page last Sunday. His par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kirk, 325 N. 38th St., Springfield, write that he has completed paratroop training at Ft. Benning, Ga., and is now a qualified parachutist. WESLEY D.
