LANDREY 1'nlttd Press staff Correspondent MORECAMBE, England (UP) Britain's Labor Party ispUt wide open Wednesday and its chairman warned it must reunite or die. ' Arthur Deakin, the country's most powerful Labor leader, threw the annual Labor Party conference into pandemonium "by threatening to set up within the party an organization ta fight Aneurin Bevan's left-wing bloc. " Deakin, red-faced and angry, denounced what he called Bevan's "party within a party" and demanded it cease its attacKs on Laoor, i-'arty mod erates led by former Prime Minister Clement R. Attlee. He was bitler over the Bevanites' defeat of Deputy Party Leader Her bert Morrison in the executive committee elections Tuesday and their demands that Britain cut loose from the United States and trim its rearmament program. Ike to Appear At GOP Rally With McCarthy " MILWAUKEE, Wis. (UV Wiscon sin Republican officials said Wed nesday that Sen. Joseph H. Mc- .Carthy and Dwight D. Eisenhower would appear together at political rallies and that McCarthy would be accorded the honor of introduc ing the former general. More than a month ago Eisen hower told newsmen at his Den ..ver.i Colo., headquarters that he could not endorse McCarthy with out qualification and did not ap prove of "methods ' that were "un just' or unfair." GOP leaders said the controver lial senator and Eisenhower would speak on the same program when the Republican presidential candi date visits Milwaukee Oct. 3. McCarthy is scheduled to make a speech which will rank second only to Eisenhower's in importance and length, they said. Gov. Walter Kohler will introduce Eisenhower. Jack Rouse, executive secretary of the state GOP voluntary com mittee, confirmed reports that Mc Carthy would be asked to intro duce Eisenhower during a whistle stop at Appleton, the senator's home town. He told the delegates a split be tween the moderate-minded trade unions and the left-wing political section of the party would mean the end of the party and assure its defeat by Winston Churchill's Con servatives in the next general election. The trade unions are the main source of funds for the Labor Party and supply the bulk of its members. Deakin heads the Transport and General Workers' Union, the larg est single union in the world. BEVANITE LINE Jennie Lee, member of Parlia ment and Bevan's wife, and Rich ard H. S. Crossman, a journalist and also member of Parliament, earlier gave the 1,200 delegates the Bevanite line on foreign policy. They urged that Britain refuse to subordinate Socialist principles to American, Russian or any other pressures. "All the arms, all the dollars In the world won't prevent another world war if we are pursuing the wrong policy," Miss Lee said. Crossman agreed that "War is quite inevitable if the rearmament race continues." "The danger is the hysterical fear in Washington and the Krm'in which is driving both sides to re arm," he said. :. IS.- Claire Luce Claims Doughboys Facing U.S. -Developed Arms NEW YORK W Former Rep. Clare Boothe Luce says American soldiers in Korea are "facing weapons developed for our use, and stolen by the Communists who have infiltrated into our govern ment." The Republican one-time con gresswoman from Connecticut adds that Reds "have been growing and thriving in the organism of the Democratic Party for the last 20 years." Mrs. Luce conducted a 30-minute program Tuesday night on the ra dio and television networks of the National Broadcasting Company. The program was sponsored by the Republican National Committee. SUBVERSIVE THEME With "Communist Subversion within the Government" as its theme, the program was one of the first to utilize popular television program techniques. Although carried by radio, Mrs. Luce used charts and films to illus trate her speech. Many times the program switched to newsreel shots of congressional hearings, and the words of the witnesses were picked up. These included J. Edgar Hoov er, FBI director; Alger Hiss, con victed perjurer and former State Department official, and Whittaker Chambers and Elizabeth T. Bentley former Communists. Mrs. Luce said the safety of ev ery American "depends on rooting out the traitors," and she added that the Republican national can didates know this. 'GET RID OF RATS' She quoted. the Democratic presidential- nominee, Gov. Adlai E. Stevenson, as saying of anti-Communist activities, "Let's not burn down the barn to catch the rats." "There we agree with him," she said. "In the effort to root Com munism out of our government we mush sacrifice none of our con stitutional liberties. ' But still the stubborn fact remains, we must get rid of the rats x x x. "On the record, the administra tion has no plan for rat catching, none whatever x x x." This source agreed with reports from Seoul that the Soviet force now numbers 7,000 to 12,000. A year ago, he said, only an estimat ed 1,000 Russians were serving in technical capacities. The build-up of Russian advis ors and technicians coincided with; the lull in fighting during the truce talks and with the increase in Chinese Communist strength durine the neriod. Other high non-military officials I said they "would not be surprised'' if Russians are attached to all top level Communist military units in Korea. The Defense Department de clined comment on the reports but a veteran military official with service in Korea said United Na tions' officials have known about the Russian activity for a long time. One official said reports thai the Soviets are manning anti-aircraft guns would be "difficult to prove" with information now available. Other sources said, how ever, that reports of Russians aid ing the Chinese and Korean Com munists coincided with a marked increase in the efficiency of anti aircraft units firing against Amer ican planes. Officials here saw nothing par ticularly ominous in the Russian build-up. They said the increase in Communist strength from half a million to more than a million troops would require a proportion ate increase in Soviet technical assistance. A diplomatic source in close touch with the situation said Tues day the Americans are considering this course in the assembly open ing Oct. 14: 1. Secretary of Slate Aeheaon would put before the Assembly as soon as it has elected officers and opened general debate a resolution by which the Assembly would express its approval of the U.N. proposals ai i-anmunjom, would urge the Communist Chi nese and North Koreans to accept them. This resolution would be sent to Peiping and Pyongyang by the Assembly president. 2. The Communists would be giv en a reasonable time to answer, perhaps after the U.S. presidential election. If they do not answer or if they reject the appeal, the Amer icans want the Assembly to ap prove a resolution providing for stronger embargoes against Com munist China and North Korea, for a strong condemnation of those two regimes, and for UN member? who have not yet sent forces to Korea to chip in troops for the fight. Only 16 UN members plus South Korea actually have troops in Korea. In a resolution approved Feb. 1, 1951, the United Nations condemned Red China and North Korea as aggressors and laid down an em military materials to them.
