Busy Program for This Summer
SUTHERLIN At the meeting
Monday, June 16, Sutherlin city
council members heard a proposed
paving program that would Im
prove sections of eight Sutherlin
streets during the summer of
1952. The program as outlined by
the city superintendent, Wm.
Bollman, would include a two-
shot oiling and rolling job. Most
streets in question would have
to be worked down to a uniform
grade before the paving could be
done.
The streets mentioned In the
proposal were: Umpqua from
Central to Fifth; Willamette from
Central to Fifth; Umatilla from

Highway Commission improve
Central Avenue, West, in the form
of a letter from assistant highway
engineer. The letter explained
that there is already a big demand
for projects to be handled through
Federal Aid Secondary Road
Funds. Sutherlin's project will be
referred to the commission, but
the letter gave little hope that it
will be considered in the near
future.
Approval was given for trans
fer of The Jug's club liquor license
to Mr. and Mrs. Warren B. Wilson.
Bollman was instructed to seek
proposals for the annual auditing
of the city books, to be undertaken
in the near future.
A committee composed of Clay
Hensley, Marvin Parks and Lloyd
Wood was appointed by the mayor
to check deeper into bids received
by the city Monday, regarding the
purchase of a new fire truck for
the city. Three bids were sub
mitted by equipment firms.
A proppsal to execute work for
preparing a structure for the in
stallation of new city water pumps
from the United Builders was
postponed until a meeting of the!
council Monday, June 23, at which
time it is expected that an agree-
ment will be entered into by the '
city and the building firm for
work required at the water de
partment headworks.
An inquiry into the possibility
of placing city employes under
social security was ordered sent
by the city council, after hearing
a report by the city superintend
ent, that city employees had vot
ed 100 per cent to be covered.
