Morse (R-Ore) that press, radio and television did not fully report the steel seizure dispute. "News coverage by the Ameri can press of all viewpoints on the steel controversy has Been thor ough and complete," ASNE head Wright Bryan, editor of the At lanta Journal, said in Atlanta Tuesday night. "ANYONE who says otherwise simply has not read the news papers, or else refuses to believe the evidence before his eyes." Bryan said editorial comment has expressed every conceivable attitude as "it always does on con troversial issues." Morse, a supporter of President Truman's seizure of the steel mills, accused the press, radio and television of failing to meet their public trust. HE SAID they ignored the seriousness of the situation con fronting the country and concen trated on the "political overtones" in the dispute. ueciaring mat mucn oi uiei nau'enawr mmmpnt "sppmpH to' follow remarkably" the content paid advertisements by the steel companies, Morse told a Senate Labor subcommittee news cover age of the steel dispute was "one of the saddest failures of Ameri can journalism in my recollection." The bill raises from $500 to $2,000 the present limitation on sale of federal timber without ad vertisement and competitive bidding. The measure's intended to make it easier for farmers and ranchers j tests to buy timber in small lots. Oregon's driver licensing pro gram has been voted Sn outstand ing achievement award by the National Safety Council, according to a telegram received by Secre tary ot State Earl T. Newbry from N. H. Dearborn, council president. The award is based upon the annual inventory of state traffic safety activities conducted among the 48 states. Taft Thinks Truman May Still Get Bid WASHINGTON (VP) Sen. Robert Taft predicted Tuesday night President Truman may yet be the Democratic candidate for president this year. "I don't mean to question Mr. Truman's good faith in withdraw ing," the condidate for the GOP presidential nomination said. "But by the time the Democrats look over the field, as they try out this man, and another balloon for somebody else and find that after all he hasn t got very much strength they may finally con clude that Mr. Truman is as strong a candidate as they can come back to." . meeting of the council may, take up the question Thursday night. Of an expected $f,uuu irom parking meter receipts during the present fiscal year, only $100 is proposed to be placed in tne city s off street parking fund. This is where the committee is seeing a red flag. HALF THE receipts must go into retiring the cost of the meters. The other half presently is going into repair and enforcement of the meters. Members of the committee think this is not the intent of the meter system. The meter system, they say, is for payment of an off-street parking system. So, the reworded ordinance. If approved by the council, will leave out the "enforcement ' angle. En forcement will be left up to the police department, where is actu ally is now, and will come out of the department budget. AL BRANDT, chairman of the committee, and Mayor B. P. Lar son, and member of the committee, raise the issue that the city is not keeping faith with the downtown merchant when such a little bit of money is going into an off-street program. Haste is of the essence, for it's budget time. Right now, purchase of a motorcycle is in the "parking meter fund" section of the budget. RAIDERS TO LOSE DEFERMENT STATUS NASHVILLE, Tenn.
