The Tigers are the lone A-2 team to make the tournament. All other seven entries are from the 4arger A-l category. DON RUECKEU, in his first vear at the Junction baseball helm, named a 15-man squad for the Albany trip. This includes: catchers Eric Jacobson and Ray Hill; pitchers Bill Pollard, Loring Dixon, Henry Robinson and Wal ly Shirmer; infield Gale Lee at first, Larry Barger at second, Bob Todd at shortstop, Ray Stuckralh at third and Terry Williams, util ity; outfield Jim Christensen in left. Junction's starting pitcher Is also in doubt although Pollard may come right back at' the Bull dogs after hurling the Tigers into the tourney Monday via a 1-0 one-hitter against Springfield. In case he doesn't start, Loring Dix on will draw the starting role. Probably the outstanding indi vidual at the tournament will bo The Dalles fastball pitcher, Eddie Urness. He is rated a sure bonus Major League prospect and has been instrumental in the Indians' record of 15 wins and no defeats. Junction's 12-1 mark is second best among the entries. (yP) A plnch hltter batted for a plnch-hitter in a Big State League game here Tuesday night and baseball vet erans said they never heard of it in Texas before. It was in the sixth inning of the Austin-Longvlew game with Austin staging a six-run rally. Ricardo Dieguez batted for pit cher Jim Logan and struck out. They batted around and when it came Dieguez' turn again John Andre batted for him and got on first through a fielder's choice. Rookies Pacing Major Fielding NEW YORK (VP) Two rookies who weren't wanted Hoc Rodriguez of the Chicago White Sox and Clint Courtney of the St. Louis Browns are giving American League veterans a les son in the fine art of fielding. Rodriguez, whom Brooklyn ped dled to Chicago from Its Mon treal farm club, has committed only two errors in 102 chances at third base to top the league with a .980 percentage. Courtney, an ex-Yankee farm hand, has done even better. The bespectacled catcher, traded to the Brownies last fall, is fielding a perfect 1.000. The figures, released Tuesday by the Associated Press' new statistical bureau, include games of Sunday, May 18. Actually, Third Baseman Gil McDougald of the Yankees is tied with Rodriguez on a percentage basis, but the White Sox rookie has handled more chances. Likewise, catchers Yogi Berra of the Yanks and Jim Hegan of Cleveland boast the same percent age as Courtney 1.000 but both have participated in fewer plays. But the San Diego manager wagered and hoped his luck would hold out a while longer. O'Doul and his Padres enjoy the altitude of first place, though they seem to be descending slow ly. Oakland sliced the Pads' Pacific Coast League margin to a game-and-a-half Tuesday night, nip ping San Diego, 3-1, on Lefty Lloyd Hittle's fine pitching per formance, SAN FRANCISCO turned three hits into a 3-1 victory over Port land because one of the safeties was a Homer by Joe Grace with two on. Los Angeles nipped Sac ramento, 4-3, when Gene Baker doubled to set up the tie-breaker in the eighth. It rained at Seattle and Hollywood and the Rainiers did not play. The appearance of San Diego as league leader was taken as a temporary thing, even to O'Doul. He's added talent like Allen Rich ter, Herb Gorman and Lou String er to his squad with the Idea of maintaining the status quo. But neither those three, nor any other Padres bothered Hittle as he went about his workmanlike job. Cracker Jack Graham spoiled his series of zeros by hitting a homer Starts mmm XL 8-inch Tilting-Arbor Craftsman Bench Saw REG. 88.50 WITHOUT MOTOR Save 9.00 Table Is never tilted, work always lies flat for easier, better work. GRACE, THE SEALS' leading sticker and among the PCL bat leaders, hit his four-master in the first Inning. It was the southpaw swinger's first homer of the year. With the three-run lead on which to work, Bill Bradford turned in a great effort, allowing only four hits. The win put the Seals at the .500 mark, with 24 wins and 24 losses. The fourth-place Angels fought from behind to measure the Solons. Don Watkins, who blanked the Sacs during his three-frame re lief stint, got a deserved win. Bob Usher hit for the circuit for Los Angeles. And Catcher Jim Mc Kecgan plopped one out of the pork for the Solons. Baker was pushed to third on a bunt and came home on Chuck Connors' long fly ball.
