Secrecy Veil Lifted On Global Bomber $600,000 Bond Issue Asked For New Schools WASHINGTON (U.R) The Air Force partially lifted the secrecy surrounding its eight-jet B-52 Global" bomber Tuesday. . Boeing Airplane Co. was per mitted to reveal the swept-wing ship's outside dimensions, showing it to be half again as large as the six-jet B-47 atomic bomber and somewhat smaller than the B-36. By CHARLES CORDDRY United Tresa Staff Writer revealed that the plane has a double-tandem landing gear-eight main wheels, four in a row. This unusual arrangement gives better weight distribution. Boeing said it is "tooling up for production" of Stratofortress which were ordered into produc tion beofre the experimental models began flight tests. Two Eugene school district voters will be asked June 16 to approve a $600,000 bond issue to finance a new junior high, the first unit on a new River Road school, and if enough funds remain, to start on an Augusta St. school. The election will be June 16: at the regular school board member election. The $600,000, if approved, would be retired at the rate of $200,000 a year, and would start in 1953. The serial levy of $200,000 a year voted for the high school will end June 30, 1953, so there will be no change in millage rate if the bond issue is approved. THE BOARD spent much of the meeting time Monday night de ciding on furniture for the new high school. In most cases J. K. Gill Co., Portland, was the suc cessful bidder, The board approved the pur chase of 820 folding chairs, 96 tablet arm chairs, 340 chir-desks, 54 teachers' desks and 120 match ing chairs, two typewriter desks, and library furniture. Decisions are still to be made on 1,600 pupil chairs, 65 folding tables, 12 table trucks, and 70 pupil desks. value o the furniture pur chased Monday is $26,336. Although most other business was routine, the board did hear a report on the formation of a local teachers' union in Eugene. The board members were told that so far only four teachers have joined. AT PRESENT, Portland and Roseburg have local teacher jected. The board feared that If unions in Oregon. the easements, which had been Representatives of the team- obtained by the PTA in the sters' local met with about 35 of the teachers here last week. The four main points of the union platform, the board was told, are that salaries should be equal to those in skilled trades, a teacher's work week should be defined, extra-curricular duties should be limited, and a labor member should be elected to the school board. Legally, the board cannot make any official act regarding the unionization of district employes. SIX TEACHER resignations were accepted, most for personal reasons. Elnora Aydelott, Jean Coley, Margaret Harvey, Phyllis Hopkins, David White, and Bar bara Wolfe are the resigning teachers. Three new teachers were elected. The board also approved the transfer of Paul Burch, social liv ing teacher at Eugene High to vice-principal and teacher at Colin Kelly. The XB-52. the longer is "practical" to try hidingfirst one, was rolled out under certain details about the B-52 'camouflage last November and Stratofortress, which Secretary Thomas K. Finletter has made a test case for his security views. He contends aircraft technical in formation helps the enemy but does not interest the' public, and that "nothing will be revealed that does not have to be revealed as a practical matter." Now that the ship is being flight tested at Seattle, Wash., Boeing can distribute pictures that have not been doctored to conceal cer tain features, as was the case with the first pictures five months ago. The newly-announced dimen sions show the plane to be 153 feet long, 48 feet high at the tail and 185 feet in wing span. It was also has been undergoing tests. It will fly soon. The second, the YB-52 first flew on April 15 for 2 hours and 51 minutes, 8 Families Homeless INDEPENDENCE, Ore.
