Hiss Attorney Makes Appeal NEW YORK (tP) Alger Hiss' lawyer charged Wednesday that an old typewriter which helped imprison Hiss was faked and planted evidence. Said Attorney Chester T. Lane in a new affidavit seeking a new trial: "It can only have been planted on the defense by or on behalf of Whittaker Chambers as part of his plot for the false incrimina tion of Alger Hiss." Hiss is serving a five year fed eral prison term for lying. He has denied. he ever gave government secrets to Chambers to give to a pre-war Russian spy ring. U.R A 87-year-old Greenville man still has a spotless record. Police Chief J. H. Jennings said the elderly man walked Into head quarters and informed the desk sergeant he wanted to pay a park ing ticket. The sergeant wrote out a re ceipt and the man gave him a dol lar, explaining that it was his first "brush with the law." Then the man handed the officer hjs "park ing ticket." It was a stub that had been placed on the man's windshield at a parking lot. The dollar was refunded. . Forum Slates NAM Speaker "Selling America Your Job!" is the title'of the address to be de livered by Dr. Ncal Bowman, ed ucator and lecturer, before the Eugene Chamber of Commerce forum luncheon Friday noon at the Eugene Hotel. Dr. Bowman, a staff speaker for the National Assn. of Manufactur ers since 1944, has addressed hun dreds of business audiences in that period. He was professor of . marketing at Temple University for 17 years and is the author of three books, on advertising and selling. He has recently published a book on pub lic speaking.
