cookie should have. They are dif
ferent, easy to make and they
keep well. And both nave proved
popular as simple refreshments for
home entertaining as well as with
her family.
Mrs. Lovegren, whose friends
are enthusiastic about her cook
ing ability, recently was chosen
Cook of the Month by one of the
major flour milling companies.
Her picture and one of her re
cipes were featured in local ad
vertising done by the company.
Detlcf6us Cookies
1 cup shortening, melted
Vi cup brown sugar
V4 cup white sugar
1 tap. soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 egg or 2 small ones
2V4 cups flour I
Salt and flavoring (vanilla)
Roll in palm of hand into round
balls and place on cookie sheet.
Place a walnut on top very light
ly. Bake 15 mins. in 375 deg. oven.
Ginger Nuts
t cups flour
1 fsp. cinnamon
Vt tsp. elbves
Vt tsp. ginger
Vi tsp. salt
Vt cup sugar
tsp. soda
Vk cup molasses
1 egit beaten
Vx cup salad oil 6r melted
shortening
1 cup chopped raisins (run
thru food grinder)
Mix and sift dry ingredients.
Add molasses, egg and shortening.
Mix stiff dough. Make into small
balls and roll in sugar. Bake for
15 mins. In 350 deg. oven.

1 pound of lean veal for stew
ing (shoulder or shank), 1 pound
of lean fresh pork for stewing
(shoulder or shank), 2 tsps. salt,
Vi tsp. pepper, 1 pint of soft fine
bread crumbs, 2 beaten eggs,
about 1 cup Of meat stock.
Place the veal and pork in a
kettl and sfdd just enough water
to cdver. Cook at a simmering
boil ihd, when almost tender, add
the salt and pepper and continue
cooking until vdry tender. Allow
tHe meat to cool In the meat stock,
theri rerhbve arid chop or shred
coaSely. Add the bread crumbs,
beaten eggs, and about half the
stock. Mix thoroughly and place in
a greased baking dish (about 6x10
inches). Add the rest of the stock
(almost enough to coveT) and
bake in a moderate oven (325
deg.) for about 1 hour.
Steaks and chops should never
be kept mori than two or three
days before using, roasts may be
stored i little longer time. To
store wrap the meat loosely in
waxed paper and put in coldest
part of the refrigerator.
