None, with the possible exception of Britain, Is in danger of a quick economic collapse. There are critics, however, who Insist that this recovery would have taken place, anyway, that the nations concerned would have gone ahead under their own power. A second fact in evidence Is that none of these same nations has gone Communist. Whether that would have happened, without Marshall-Plan money is something we will never know. "Scare-Cry" Fear Again, the critics of the project assert that the threat of Com munism was a scare-cry, a danger that existed only In the imagina tion of European diplomats look ing for loans. Was the money administered efficiently? There were many brilliant, able and selfless men and women who took E. C. A. posts. They sacrl ficed home life and the care of their own business to go abroad, And they tried hard, in various countries, to see to it that the tax payer s dollar went into worth while works. ' But there were also hundreds, and even thousands, of the plaln- cookle-cut bureaucrats, free-load-era and gravy-trainers who swarm aboard any big government pro ject. There were American wives who never will recover from the lact mat papa once was an E.C.A. "sassiety" in many a European capital was something to make the angels weep. Tibbs shattered the Sunday afternoon quiet when he slipped through the window of his third floor room to the rooftop to begin a reign of destruction, Officers said Tibbs ripped with his bare hands big chunks out of chimneys on the 11 houses, kicked in nine skylights, uprooted a tele vision aerial, fell through the roof of one house where he wrecked two bedrooms, tore out the plumbing and caused a minor flood, then did battle with the policeman. Police said he has powerfully built arms. Captain Elmer Dunn, of the Baltimore Fire Department, said Tibbs tore two skylights from their frames with his bare hands, Ordinarily, Dunn said, when fire men have to remove a skylight during a fire, the job takes three or four men with crowbars, Roofs Littered Roofs of the eleven houses were littered with loose bricks. The buildings were row houses with adjoining walls, giving Tibbs a clear field across the rooftops. Spending the holidays with the Dick Carlisle family Is Howard Bennett, a former resident, of Glendale, Calif, A Christmas potluck and school program at the Wendling Grade School was well attended by about 50 persons Dec, 21 Friends were sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Minnie Crandal who died at her home in Eugene recently. Mrs. Crandal was a long time resident of Wendling before moving to Eugene. The John Downings, Srs., spent Christmas day with Mrs. Down ings sister, Mrs. Cal Eaton In Eugene. Visitors at the Chester L. prlck- ett home on Christmas were Mr. and Mrs. James Morton, Mr. and Mrs, Perry Wile, Springfield, Miss Billie Davis and Mr. Jack Wheel er. Their son.
