The queen insisted on looking in every room of the dormitory- Their next encounter with Belgian royalty was in 1931. Princess Astrid, who later be came the wife of King Leopold III, came to tea at the Byerlee home. A glee club of twelve native boys, whom Mis. Byerlee had trained, sang for the royal guest. The teacher said the prin cess was amazed that names could present four-part music. "Considering thai the Belgian government is Catholic and we're Protestant, they have been very kind to us," Mr. Byerlee said. The Belgian government sup plies necessary medical and dental care to the missionaries, and they are beginning to grant subsidies for educational work, according to Mr. Byerlee. When the Byerlees return this time, Mrs. Byerlee will be supervisor of the school for wo men and girls at Bolenge, five miles from Coquilhatville. En rollment is 138. There are ten teachers and a native supervisor. Academic courses up to the third grade, are offered from six to ten o'clock each morning. From two to five o'clock the girls learn handicrafts as crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Mr. Byerlee will reassume his duties as master printer and me chanic of the Bolenge press. The book, "Fifty Years In Congo," by Herbert Smith tells that he has had charge of the Bolenge press during all of his service. He has also been Mission trea surer for a time, and shared in the evangelistic and agricultural work. Both his and Mrs. Byer lee's pictures appear in the book which mentions her as a music teacher at the Congo Christian Institute. When the Byerlees arrive at Coquilhatville, Miss Marie John son will be at the mission office. A graduate of NCC, she left Eu gene last March to return to the Belgian Congo. Register-Guard. Eugene.
