New English Cars
To Be Shown Here
The English-built econimy cars
the Anglia and the Prefect will be
on display for the first time in the
Northwest Friday at 1290 Olive
Street.
There are four models: a two
door sedan, the Anglia; a four
door sedan, the Prefect; quarter
ton truck and half-ton truck,
known as the Thames.
All are powered with a four
cylinder L-head engine generating
30 horsepower. The motor has
been described as a "short model
A" block with force feed lubrica
tion. The cars have good accelera
tion, a cruising speed of SO miles
an hour and economy of 35 miles
per gallon of gasoline. , -
The wheolbase of the Prefect is
04 Inches, and the other three
models, 90 inches. The motor in
the half-ton truck is installed off
center to move the driver up for
ward as in a cab-over-engine Job. '
Overall length of the car is 196
inches, overall width is 97 inches
and height, 63A inches.
Reminiscent of a generation
ago, there is a complete tool kit
in the trunk, with enough tools to
fix almost any part of the car. The
traffic signal is not a light, but a
lighted arm, protruding from the
side of the body in response to the
indicator lever on- the steering
wheel.
For changing tires, during rainy
weather, there are four holes in
the floorboard through which the
Jack may be slipped for raising
any wheel.
