With a vote of 24 against and only one for, the initiative per mitting liquor by the drink was turned down by this city's Repub lican women at their luncheon Tuesday, Oct. 19 at the Southern Kitchens in Junction City. Senator Angus Gibson of Junc tion City was the guest speaker. He explained the various meas ures which are to be on the Nov. 2 ballot. New members in the organiza tion are: Mrs. May Gardner of Junction City and Mrs. Dorothy Brougher and Mrs. Ethyl Kast of Lone Pine. Bill Healy of the Secretary of State's office was the guest speak er at the dinner meeting of the Junction City Lions Club Monday, Oct. 18. He spoke on the present and future vehicle licensing in this state and told club members that plans are now underway to issue permanent license plates be ginning in 1950. A group from the Junction City Union High School gave a few instrumental musical selections. This year's Lion Christmas par ty will include the wives. At Monroe MONROE Tax statements were received in Monroe Monday morning of this week for the year 1948-49. Taxes are much higher than last year, more than one-half higher in some cases.
