Eugene Men Return From Navy Training Eleven officers and 37 enlisted reservists, including five from Eu gene, returned to cities in Oregon and Washington Sept. 17 after a two-week training cruise aboard the destroyer USS Swenson. Ph. 6061 No Appointment Neeessary for Examination Cocker Wins Show Honors "Champion Lodestar Country Gentleman," a black cocker spaniel, took top honors at the Second Annual Eugene Kennel Club Dog Show Sunday at the Armory. The dog Is owned by the Lodestar Kennels of Olympia, Wash., and was shown by Mrs. Pauline Williams, owner. As "best in show," the dog won the Veterinarians' Trophy, donated by the veterinarians of Eugene. The large gold cup was twice as tall as the dog. The winner of "best in show" also won "best in group" for sporting dogs. Other group win ners: hounds, a Russian wolf hound, "Champion Igar of Ro manoff" owned by Miss Beverly Traglio of Portland; working dogs, a standard schnauser, "Champion Flare von Tappen owned by Nicholay Finn of San Francisco; terriers, a Kerry Blue, "Champion Fox Hills Reveler," owned by Mr. and Mrs. William S. Fox, of Piedmont, Calif.; toys, a miniature pinscher, "Stockdale Northen Venture," owned by C. B. Van Meter, of Van Nuys, Calif.; non-sporting or miscellaneous, a Boston terrier, "International Champion Long's Brat's Witch," owned by Long's Brat's Kennels, of Olympia, Wash. "Johnnie" Thompson, 12, of Eugene, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Thompson, was winner of the children's handling class, With Nancy Britten, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Britten of Route 2, Springfield, as girls winner and runnerup. Good crowds passed through the Armory all day, and it is ex pected that the show will pay its expenses, although no financial statement is available yete ac cording to Mrs. Ray Bond, presi dent of the club. The next Kennel Club meeting . is Wednesday, I Oct. 13, at Carey's Stovt Store, upstairs, at 7:30 p.m. Anyone in terested in purebred dogs is invited. Three Join Navy Enlisting in the U. S.
