The tale is involved and long, but the "meat" of the story makes for but one thing and that's a ter rific battle between he and Al Szasz in the headline attraction of Don Owen's weekly wrestling show Saturday night at the arm1 ory. Szasz, in a great display of wrestling last week, in Yakima defeated Frankie Stojack for the Coast junior heavyweight title, Jones, In a great display of head butting last week, defeated the Phantom In the armory main event. That's what they did last week but the tale goes farther back than that. Some months ago, in Yakima, Jones, with his mean tactics, cut bzasz up so bad he had to retire for a spell. A couple of weeks ago in Yakima he did it to St asz again and police in that city demanded he never show there again. Szasz in his fury, has carried the match to Eugene even over-looking all title claimants or a rematch for Stojack. Szasz says that if Jones walks out of the ring with the title he'll have ot kill him first. Jones says he's been fighting here for some time and never yet has got a title crack, which may or may not be a back of the hand slap at the wrestlers and Owen. Jones swears that if the title isn't up there'll r e no match. Szasz Is just mad enough to do anything to get him In the ring so It'll probably be a title match although as of Tuesr day it wasn't certain. i Smci 1 Q I on )af lad Sale U Me L I em: rc O t. i 11 x a r TIRES 1 I I Crlssoross vcAWm &0 J lnflst" cor"l I 1 ttfcN .VIS rect pressure I 1 V ?! In other games the Moose Lodge pounded out an abbreviated 14-1 win over Buck's Plumbing and the Marines opened the second-half Industrial League drive with a 6-5 win over Giustina. The old master, Verne Adams, had a two-hit job to his credit in recording the Sterling win. His mates gave him a three run lead in the second inning and he coasted an in. Central Lutheran pulled the surprise of the evening by knock ing over the Elks, Heavy artillery in the fifth and sixth innings pro duced the win. The Marines, decked out in spanking new uniforms, gave the Giustina team an early lead, but came back with a big third inning to salt the win. Movement Afoot to Place Dodds on Team LOS ANGELES, July 18 Gil Dodds, ace U. S. middle dis tance runner, will be a member of the American Olympic team, if the Los Angeles Football Writers Association has anything to say about it. The association, In a resolution forwarded Monday to the U. S. Olympic Committee, urged that Dodds be taken along as an alternate. The Flying Parson pulled a ten- den, which prevented his compet ing in the final Olympic tryouts at Evanston, 111., over the week end. Most experts considered him a cinch to capture the 1500-meter race. The grid writers pointed out there is plenty of precedent for naming Dodds an alternate, re calling that boxing and weight lifting squads always take alternates.
