Am bassador Lewis Douglas Tuesday night signed the Anglo-American agreement setting Britain up for American aid under the Euro pean Recovery Plan. The formal signing closely fol lowed approval by the House of Commons, 409 to 12. Six Con servatives, two Laborites, two in dependent Laborites and two Communists opposed. PARIS (U.R) The French nat ional assembly Wednesday ap proved the agreement with the United States on Marshall Plan aid by a vote of 336 to 183. Communist deputies voted against the bilateral accord out lining the terms for Marshall Plan Hid, and De Gaullists ab stained. Foreign Minister Georges Bl dault led the fight for approval in assembly debate which began last Friday. Hall to call a special legislative session on flood relief. The group will be headed by Spencer Gill, chairman of the citizens committee for flood dis aster. This committee was formed by a group of former Vanport residents after the flood. Hearings Set WASHINGTON (U.B Secre. tary of Intrior J. A. Krug has set Aug. 2 for hearings on pro posed withdrawal of 3,269,610 acres of public land as a perma nent part of the Army's Alamo gordo, N. M bombing range. The hearings will be held in the federal district court room, Las Cruces, N. M. They will be con ducted by Roscoe E. Bell, assis tant director of the Bureau of Land Management. Krug said the hearings are the result of "mutual agreement of the secretaries of interior and Army that full opportunity should be afforded for all interested cit izens to express their views." The land includes parts of the White Sands National Monument, the Jornada range reserve anij the Cibola national forest. Under the proposed withdrawal, grazing could continue on public lands north and west of U. S. Highway No. 70 at such times and for such periods as would be agreeabl to the Army and the In terior Department. But the land would be withdrawn from all other general use. The Army originally requested 1,250,000 acres and then raised that to 3,263,619 acres. Manslaughter Sentence bet PORTLAND, Ore. (U.R) Am. old Inman, 35, Portland service station operator, Wednesday was under sentence of 15 years in slate prison on a charge of manslaugh ter. Judge Martin W. Hawkins, who passed out the maximum prison sentence for manslaughter Tues day, also fined Inman $100. Inman was tried on a charge of first degree murder for the slay ing of his business partner, Ever ett L. Keith, in their service station here March 3. A jury in Judge Hawkins' court convicted Inman of manslaughter last week. Inman testified he struck Keith with a hammer in self defense. County Farm Girls Enter Movie Contest County 4-H Club Agent John Gurton reported Wednesday that more than 40 Lane County farm girls had entered a contest being conducted by a Hollywood film producer who wants to find a 13-year-old 4-H clubber to play the lead role in a proposed motion picture. The girls are sending their pho tographs to the club office in part of a nation-wide "talent" search that so far has brought in more than 5000 snapshots from farm girls.
