Page tB .Beghter-Guera1, Eugene, Ore., Sun., June 18, 1948 Santa Clara Church Has Large Wedding Monday Evening Santa Clara Church of Christ saw the wedding Monday eve ning of Miss Vivian Maxine Pol lock of San Jose, Calif., to Gor don Wesley Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Thompson of 1490 Fourth Avenue West, Eu gene. Mr. Thompson also is re cently from San Jose, where both young people had been taking advanced courses at San Jose Bible College, following work at Northwest Christian College in Eugene. The candlelighted ser vice was performed by Kenneth Edwards, minister in the Church of Christ at Colvllle, Wash. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Myrtle Pollock of Bandon, and H, M. Pollock of Lewlston, Idaho. Tall baskets of rhododendrons and ferns brought from Bandon decorated the church for the wedding. Special music before the ceremony included "Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life," sung by Mrs. Tom Cauley, and "Together With Him," by Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hughes. Mrs. Louis Black was the pianist. Mrs. Brenton Chapman and Miss Barbara Lemmert, m formal gowns of pink and green, lighted the can dles. The bride wore a wedding gown of white satin, in tradi tional style of fitted bodice and full skirt with train, which was borrowed from her sister, Mrs. B. J. Hughes of Gering, Nebr. She wore a fingertip veil of ny lon net, held by a beaded tiara. She carried a French bouquet of white carnations and red rose buds, tied with white satin streamers. She walked alone to the altar. Mrs. Hughes was her sister's matron of honor. Sha wore a floor-length gown of pink, and carried a French bouquet of pink roesbuds and white carnations, tied with pink satin ribbons. Other bridal attendants were Mrs. Paul Rathbum of Eagle Pass, Texas, in an aqua gown, carrying red rosebuds and white carnations and Miss Gloria Ar mijo of San Jose, in yellow, car rying yellow rosebuds and ear nations. Nyla Guthrie of Santa Clara was tha flower girl, wear ing a floor-length yellow gown, and carrying rose petals in a ' hand-crocheted basket. The mother of the bride wore a black arepe ensemble, with pink accessories, and a corsage of Cecile Brunner roses. The bridegroom's mother wore navy blue, and a similar corsage. Melvin Loren Thompson was his brother's best man, and ush ers were Ronald Thompson, an other brother, Brenton Chapman and B. J. Hughes. A reception was held in the church parlors after the mar riage ceremony, and Mrs. W. C. Wods, aunt of the bride, cut the wedding cake. Mrs. Charles Stallsmith, another aunt, was at tha punch bowl, and Mrs. Owen Thompson, aunt of the bride groom, at the coffe urn. Mrs. Delbert Addleman and Mm. Carl Dwyer assisted in serving. Tha young couple will spend tha summer in Mexico. For traveling, the bride wore a black gabardine suit with white ac cessories. She Is a missionary on furlough to Mexico, and they plan to enter teaching work there later. Their home after Septem ber 1 will be at San Jose, where they will continue study at the San Jose Bible College. Putman-Harper Rites Take Place At Franklin Church ; Franklin Christian Church was the scene of the wedding June S,. of Miss Audrey June Harper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon K. Harper of Linslaw, to Thomas Lelghton Putman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee W. Putman of Junction City. The rites were said Satur day evening at eight o'clock. The bride wore a suit of light blue wool, with white hat and ac cessories. Her pearl necklace was . a gift of the bridegroom, as was the white Bible which she car ried, topped with an orchid. Mrs. Melvin Staats of Elmira, a sister of the bride, was the only bridal attendant. She wore a suit of aqua blue with white hat and her flowers were gardenias and. rosebuds. Forrest H. Hollyman of Tole do acted as best man. Jack Ca- hoon of Toledo and Melvin Staats ushers. The bride was given in in marriage by her father. The church was decorated by William Simmons of Junction City, who used variegated iris. Alvln W. Hoerauf of Lebanon sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "Because," accompanied by Miss. Mina Sibley of Eugene. Mrs. Lou Campbell cut the wedding cake at the reception, held in Franklin Grange Hall. Mrs. M. Snyder and Mrs. S. W. Christiansen poured. The bride groom's cake was served wrapped in small packages and tied with ribbon. Heather snowballs and iris were used in decoration. Miss Lorraine Peddicord had charge of the guest book. Serving were Mrs. Staats, Mrs. Donald Glllman, Miss Donna Christian sen, Mrs. Earl Kelly, Miss Patty Peroni, Mrs. Dan Martin, Mrs. John Venator and Mrs. Robert Thompson, Mrs. Vernon Harper and Mrs. Lee Putman. Among out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Putman and grand-daughter of Walla Walla, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Putman and family' of Cottage Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Put man and son of Coos Bay; Mr. and Mrs. John Putman and fam ily of Springfield; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Haydon and family of Rose burg and the bridegroom's grand parets, Mr. and Hrs. H. E. Wick ham of Springfield. The couple went on a wedding trip to Crater Lake. They will live at Mount Hebron, Calif. Later the couple left for an ex tended wedding trip. They will live at Portland after June 20. The bride is a graduate of Oregon College of Education at Mon mouth, and has taught school at Manzanita, Ore., for the past three years. Collver At Fairmount Church Miss Letha May Hodges, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Hodges, and Richard L. Collver, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray C. Coll ver, all of Eugene, were married June 8 at the Fairmount Church of Christ. The Rev. W. W. White officiated at the Sunday after noon ceremony. Miss Hodges wore a gown fashioned from white nylon and lace, with lace gloves, and lace fingertip veil held by a crown of lace trimmed with stephanotis. Her flowers were pink and white carnations. Miss Peggy Weaver of Oak land, Calif., was maid of honor, wearing a gown of pale blue parachute nylon, made in a style similar to that ' of the bride. Misses Lorraine Scott and Mary Hixson were bridesmaids. All three carried nosegays of blue Dutch iris and pink rosebuds. Claudene Ticer was flower girl. The church was elaborately decorated with calla lilies, purple iris, candles and Cecile Brunner roses. Donald Neally sang "Be cause" and "Oh! Sweet Mystery of Life." Mrs. William Ticer, Mrs. Roy Crane and Mrs. D. C. Ticer, helped with the serving at the reception in the church parlor. For going away the bride wore a suit of maroon with grey ac cessories. Their wedding journey was to eastern Oregon, and they will be at home at 1424 Eight eenth Avenue East, on return. COUPLE MARRIED AT BAPTIST CHURCH Mrs. Pauline Napier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Collins of Eugene, and George H. Friesen were married in the First Bap tist Church, at six o'clock in the evening, Friday, June 4. The bride wore a suit of grey with pink accessories and a cor sage of Odontoglossum orchids. The couple was not attended, only immediate relatives being present. The bride, escorted by her father, wore a gown of white lace over taffeta, the fitted bodice fashioned with sweetheart neck lines and long fitted sleeves. The floor-length skirt was full. The fingertip veil fell from a coro net of net and she carried a white Bible and a lavender or chid with streamers holding tiny white orchids. Miss Mildred Ross, maid of honor for her sister, wore a gown of pastel green lace and chiffon. She carried a fan-shaped nose gay of pink rosebuds.
