iMi UO Women's Winter Tea is oionui mm i - t 11 im. i-a&tii mssg u v . -.. , . . .is; It I 1 . . . f The annual mid-winter tea of the State Association of Uni versity of Oregon Women, Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. F. L. Chambers, took oriental atmosphere from the decorations and the featured talk by Mrs. Ivan Ware. Mrs. Ware went to Japan at the close of the war to join her husband for a year. She brought back many interesting souvenirs some of which she showed as she talked upon the status of wom en in that country. She related her own experiences, and cor rected some false impressions of Japanese people and their life. She wore a Japanese kimono. An interesting table center piece, contributing to the orient al motif, was contrived from gnarled branches of nut trees, bearing catkins, combined with miniature parasols and figurine. Mrs. Robert M. Fischer, Jr., of Salem, who is president of the association, was present, and talked upon th eobjectivcs of the organization. These are two fold, preservation of university traditions, especially those which affect women, and aid to women students, ' through schol arships. These are supported en tirely through dues of the mem bership. Mrs. Fischer brought out that not only former stu dents and graduates of the uni versity, but all women interest ed in furthering the scholar ship work, may contribute the yearly membership fee of one dollar. The first scholarship was named for Dr. Luella Clay Car son, first dean of women; the latest loan fund is named for Jennie Beattie Harris, late wife of Laurence Harris, Eugene.
