Only one of the letters contained actual statistics showing a break down of costs in 1947 compared to earlier years. At least a half-dozen of the questionnaires were pot consid ered by that number of groups contacted through the survey let ters, according to statements of members present at the hearing. When E. H. Peterson, chairman, read the list of 38 organizations in an attempt to find whether the groups had sent personal repre sentatives rather than letters, members of several organizations declared the matter never had been brought up for consideration. Uno Leppanen Uno Leppanen, 55, Reedsport machine shop operator for the past 27 years, died Tuesday at his home following a short illness. He had been In a hospital for pneumonia, nia. Born in Finland, he came to the United States in 1910, and was married In 1913 when his wife ar rived from Finland. They moved to Florence, and to Reedsport in 1918. Surviving are his widow, the former EUen Sollo, Reedsport; two sons, Leo, Eugene, and Paul, Oak land, Calif.; and a grandson, Stephen. Funeral services will be an nounced after arrival of relatives. Extortion Letter Brings Arrest LOS ANGELES Wl Mrs. Jane Bean, 20, was indicted Wednesday on charges of sending an extortion letter through the mill to Actress Betty Grable. Mrs. Bean, who came here re cently from Kaufman, Tex., was arrested two weeks ago by FBI agents who charged she sent a let ter threatening to Kidnap miss Gravel's seven-month old daugh ter, Jessica, unless the actress paid $5000. She was held in jail in lieu of $1000 bail.
