It killed the tiger that was carrying Grlshko in its mouth back Into the bushes. The story of the battle of the two hunters with the. tiger and its dramatic conclusion reached here from Vladivostok. Smlslov and Grlshko are hunt ers In the village of Nesterovka. They were awakened early one morning by the alarm spread by one Shevchenko, who had heard terrible bleatlngs from his sheep pen. The tiger seised a sheep and fled ai the hunters approached but Grishko'i first shot wounded It In its fury, it turned on the hunters. Grlshko was not fast enough. The tiger seized him In its mouth and turned back toward the bushel. To the accompanying screams of Grlshko, Smlslov knelt, took aim and fired at the rapidly receding figure of the cat. He knew it was the only shot he would get. The animal, although wounded, Its blood staining the helpless Grlshko, was making good time and by the time Smlslov could reload would be out of range. But Smislov's aim was true. The bullet pierced the tiger's head. It dropped dead and Grlshko tumbled from its mouth. Grlshko Is recovering from his wounds. The wild animals can sup across the border, and any day now the disease may be found in this country. Wllklns said that 18 of the fed eral Mexican states have been ravaged by the disease. It has spread so rapidly, and opposition to the U. 3, slaughtering program is so strong, that there seems no way of stopping the spread south of the border.
